According to CNBC, Mark Thompson, chief executive of New York Times Company (NYSE:NYT), told CNBC on Monday that he believes that the newspaper press may have a “lifespan” of ten years.
"I think that at least in the next decade, we can see our own print products in the United States," Thompson said in an interview with CNBC's program "Power Lunch." He said he hopes to see that the printing business will be able to "survive and thrive as long as possible", but at the same time admits that this industry may face a "expiry date."
"We will simply make decisions based on economic factors," he said. "At some point, the economics of (printed newspapers) may no longer make sense to us."
