In order to improve the wear resistance and aesthetics of the book cover, the film has been widely used in the field of publishing. However, with the increasing awareness of environmental protection around the world, more and more countries have begun to ban the use of laminating process. In China, it has also been advocated to replace the film with UV glazing, but for various reasons, UV glazing has not been promoted and applied, and the laminating process still dominates the material market. Recently, the author discussed this issue with some people in the industry, such as Mr. Zhao Pengfei from the People's Posts and Telecommunications Publishing House, and believed that there are some problems in the level of consciousness and technology at the UV coating process.

1. Problems at the level of consciousness

Our government and people pay less attention to environmental issues. In developed countries, as long as there is a hidden danger of environmental protection in a certain technology, it is strictly prohibited. "One-vote veto" is not negotiable. However, China must consider many comprehensive issues such as economic benefits. If the environmental awareness of the Chinese people has not been raised to the height of “one-vote veto”, the “UV glazing replacement coating process” is a sentence.

2. Problems at the technical level

At present, the UV glazing process is not very mature, and some technical problems need to be solved, which is the direct reason for restricting the promotion of UV glazing technology.

(1) Folding resistance, wear resistance and cost The primary purpose of laminating and glazing is to beautify and protect the cover of the book. However, the folding resistance and wear resistance of domestic UV varnish are not ideal. It is often seen that the book often breaks at the corners of the spine and the pressure line after many readings; the cover is easy to wear and cause scrapping during the delivery of the book.

Some professional foreign anti-refractive oils can solve the above problems, but the cost is relatively high, even higher than the film.

The magazine has strong timeliness and short sales cycle. The readers rarely save it after reading, so the wear resistance of varnish is relatively low, and the glazing process can basically meet the requirements. At present, some magazines have begun to adopt the glazing process.

(2) Pressure resistance If improperly handled, the varnish layer on the spine side pressure line is easily broken.

(3) Appearance characteristics After glazing, the thickness of the cover is not much increased, which is relatively soft. If paper of the same thickness is used, the appearance of glazing is not as good as that of the film.

3. Advantages and development prospects of UV glazing

Although there are still some difficulties in promoting the UV glazing process in China's publishing field, the film coating process will not retreat from the dominant position in a short period of time, but it should be recognized that the promotion of UV glazing process is the general trend, and various constraints will be gradually overcome. .

First of all, with the approaching of the 2008 Olympic Games, the state will pay more attention to environmental protection issues, and the national environmental awareness will also increase rapidly. The pace of glazing replacement of film will inevitably accelerate. Technically speaking, the environmentally-friendly and high-quality glazing machine has been available, and the domestic varnish producers have accelerated the process of solving the problem of folding, wear-resistance and cost, and then the glazing process. The lack of improvement has been slightly improved, and UV glazing instead of film is no longer a distant matter.

In addition, UV glazing also has many advantages that the film does not have: 1 The glazing oil used has a solid content of 100%, no solvent volatilization, which is safe and environmentally friendly. 2 The drying speed is fast, and it is not limited by the type of substrate. The surface of the printed product after UV glazing is flat and bright, and the hardness is high. 3 high production efficiency, can greatly reduce the production cost, the comprehensive cost of 250gm2 coated paper glazing and 200gm2 coated paper film is almost the same. In this way, in the case of the same cost, the use of thick paper for the cover can completely compensate for the lack of appearance characteristics of the glazing. 4 Some representative enterprises in China are constantly researching new technologies to promote the overall improvement of UV glazing technology in China, which will become the most powerful guarantee for the promotion of UV glazing technology.

Third, domestic glazing equipment can fully meet the demanding UV glazing requirements. The YT1A1 split sheet-fed glazing machine developed by Henry Company can reach 8000 sheets of speed and can be matched with high-speed unit offset presses. It can be used for partial full-page UV glazing, partial full-surface water glazing, and single-sheet flexographic printing. In addition, the machine has also significantly improved the processing effect and support for the post-process. It adopts the principle of flexo printing for UV glazing. The number of ceramic anilox roller screens is more than 600 lines, which can accurately control the varnish transmission of fine glazing. It can overcome the traditional roller coating glazing coating. Too thick, prints are prone to cracking, and it is impossible to stamp hot aluminum.

We believe that more companies will join the R&D team of glazing technology to greatly promote the development and promotion of this technology. With the increasing environmental awareness of the Chinese people, UV glazing and water-based glazing will make a great difference in the publishing industry, and UV glazing instead of film will eventually become a reality.
