When pre-press separation output is performed, some pre-production and art designers who do not understand the printing process requirements often encounter images and images that use RGB mode in PS or PDF documents. The pre-output processing brings difficulties. Correctly processing the color of the RGB mode in the output document is an important operation for the pre-press output job.

Existing RIP output software or digital output flow software provides a way to handle RGB mode colors. By setting the parameters of the output software, the color separation output of the RGB mode color can be well controlled, and the color reproduction can be guaranteed to the greatest extent possible. In the case of RGB color separation output, there is often a case where the black version has no color separation data, and this problem can be solved in an output software such as RIP.

First, RGB color processing of Harlequin RIP output software

In Harlequin RIP software, there are two cases of RGB color processing, namely RGB color separation processing without Color Management (No Color Management) and RGB using Harlequin ColorPro (Harlequin ColorPro). Color separation processing.

1. RGB color processing without color management function

Since the color management function of the Harlequin RIP is required to purchase an additional color management function module, there may be no color management function in the output unit of the Harlequin RIP software. In the case of No Color Management, it is also possible to easily set the method of controlling the color separation of the RGB mode when processing the RGB mode color. Select the "Color Setup Manage..." option under the menu "Color" to open the color processing settings dialog shown in Figure 1. (figure omitted)

Figure 1: Create a new colorless management setting, open the settings dialog shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2: How to control the generation of black version data when processing the RGB mode color in the Output Controls for RGB option setting output, as shown in Figure 3, the black version data generation method is basically the same as some settings in Photoshop. .

Figure 3: Save the settings as a new color separation method and call it in the “Page Setup Manager”, as shown in Figure 4.

Figure 4: Calling this page to set the parameters at the output will be able to better handle the RGB mode color.

2. Use Harlequin ColorPro's RGB color processing

If the color management function (Color Pro) is already enabled in the Harlequin RIP, you can add a separation control curve to control the processing of the RGB mode colors. Select the "Install ICC Profile" option under the menu "Color" to open the dialog shown in Figure 5 and load the curve.

Figure 5: The same entry into the "Color Setup Manager" for color separation settings, as shown in Figure 6.

Figure 6: Set the ICC file of its output and the black version generation mode when RGB color output, save the set parameters, and call them in the page setup, as shown in Figure 7.

Figure 7: When the file is output, select this page to set the parameters, which will be able to complete the color separation output processing of the RGB mode color.

Second, RGB color processing of Agfa Apogee digital output system

In the digital output flow system, the processing method for the RGB mode is more perfect. With the Apogee process system as a column, there are more detailed settings for operation in the color separation module. As shown in Figure 8, in Apogee's color separation processing component PDF Render, the settings of the color separation processing can be set for different color modes and for different situations of graphics and images. As shown in Figure 8, if the graphics or image elements in the document contain ICC property data files for processing, you can choose not to use the built-in properties file and use the built-in property file, you can also specify a default in the process. The properties file is processed.

For the target profile of the output document (ie CMYK color profile), it can be set in the print component of the output job, as shown in Figure 9.

Apogee's digital process system allows operators to personalize feature files into the system for color management of each color-related component. Its powerful output color management function can better ensure the targeted processing of different color modes and spot colors in the output process to achieve the best output.

At present, the plane production and design personnel cannot have a good understanding of the printing process characteristics. When outputting the operation, they will encounter some documents that do not meet the requirements. The output of these documents must be cautious. The best way is to communicate and communicate with the producer to solve problems such as the use of RGB colors, so as not to cause unnecessary trouble.
