What is corrugated cardboard?
Corrugated cardboard is a multi-layered bond that consists of at least one layer of wavy core paper sandwich (commonly known as "pit sheet" or "corrugated core paper") and a layer of cardboard (commonly known as "kraft card"). It has a high mechanical strength and can withstand collisions and falls during handling. The actual performance of corrugated boxes depends on the characteristics of the core paper and cardboard and the structure of the carton itself.
Classification of corrugated cardboard
Corrugated cardboard can be divided into the following five types according to different combinations:
1. A board consisting of a layer of core paper and a kraft card is called a "cardboard of the varnish". This type of paperboard is generally used only for cushioning, spacing and wrapping irregular shapes.
2. A board consisting of a layer of core paper and two layers of upper and lower kraft cards is called “single pit board”.
3. The two-layer core paper is sandwiched between three-layer leather cards and is called “double pit cardboard”. Double pit paperboard can be composed of pit papers with different pit widths and papers, such as "B" pit paper with "C" pit paper.
4. The three-layer core paper is sandwiched between four-layer leather cards called “three-pitch cardboard”.
5. Extra strong double-sided cardboard is developed from single-ply cardboard. The middle layer of core paper is made up of two thick core papers. After decades of exploration and development, today's domestic manufacturers can produce a variety of different combinations of corrugated cardboard. These cardboards have different qualities and strengths to meet the changing needs of the market.
Core paper material
The larger the corrugated cardboard pit diameter, the stronger its rigidity. The toughness of the cardboard originates from the core paper layer without the need for thick and hard fillers. This will reduce the weight of the board and its cost. The core paper can be made from semi-chemical pulp which provides optimum paper strength and recycled paper stock. The latter is easy to adopt because of the low cost, although the paper strength is not as good as the former, but it can be improved by adding starch to the paper mill.
The pit pattern has a certain space in the corrugated paper, and its role is also very important, by which it can withstand flat pressure, side pressure and various other irregular pressures.
Imported corrugated paperboard production papers are mainly imported from the United States, Japan, Finland, Canada and other countries with a basis weight of 360g/m2 cattle card and 180g/m2 corrugated base paper, and some are designated as 337g/m2 cattle card and 160g/m2 corrugated base paper. In order to improve the production of corrugated paper boxes for domestic sales, some paper companies have begun to test the amount of 360g/m2 and 420g/m2 kraftliner paper (kraft cardboard). Kraft card
The kraft card constitutes the inner and outer layers of the corrugated cardboard, and its function may be structural or decorative. Each layer of kraft card provides various properties for paperboard, and these properties can be expanded by processes such as bonding and waxing.
Light coated white cattle card
Light-coated white cattle cardboard: It is coated with a very thin coating layer on the basis of white cattle cardboard, and coated with an air knife coating method that can smooth the surface of the paper. It not only has the printing advantages of coated paper, but also has the characteristics of easy printing of white cattle cardboard. Since the lightly coated coating is very thin, the thin coating does not easily break and powder, and the coating remains very uniform. High-quality paint based on porcelain clay can make ink better adsorbed on paper. The ink after printing of such paper can be quickly dried in a short time, the drying of the ink can be fast, the printing production efficiency can be improved, and even the pressure line can be directly grooved, and the ink printing machine with the drying device can be folded or die-cut. produce.
For gravure preprinted substrates, coated white paper with good surface smoothness, good printability, and stable moisture content (6% to 7%) must be used. The imported coated cattle card and the domestic gray bottom whiteboard can meet the paper-receiving requirements of high-grade colored corrugated box paper.
Foreign kraftliner paper generally adopts 100% natural wood pulp, and also uses natural wood pulp noodles, and waste paper pulp as the base pulp. Due to the high amount of long fibers, the physical strength of the paperboard is relatively improved, and it has good moisture resistance and is suitable for large-scale production. However, China's timber resources are in short supply, generally 40% to 50% wood-colored wood pulp noodles, with wheat straw, straw or waste paper pulp as the base pulp. The physical strength of the paperboard depends on the different ratios of pulp and straw. However, generally 20% of the natural wood pulp noodles are used, and about 80% of the wheat straw, straw and waste paper pulp are mixed as the low-grade kraftliner paper of the base pulp. This type of cardboard paper is moderately priced, and it has become one of the most used papers for the production of corrugated boxes for domestic sales.
White-faced cattle card: It is divided into coated white-faced cattle card and white noodle cow card (the cow card with bleached wood pulp on the surface).
