The importance of printing to products

On weekdays, we are always talking about the expiration date of the goods, the period of use, and the topic of food safety. All the above data will be printed on the packaging. There have been manufacturers who have returned the product due to the expiration date of the printed product. This example shows that the printing on the packaging plays a very important role. Many food company's workshops have installed camera sensors to check all the goods, so they can afford to print at a huge cost.

What we often see is the printing of the manufacturer's name, product name, ingredient list, etc. on the packaging by gravure or offset printing. These are called source markings. For consumers, they are the data that conveys goods and highlights the brand of the goods, thereby increasing consumer confidence in the goods. In addition, the expiration date on the packaging and the manufacturer's inherent symbols, referred to as direct marking, are printed when the product is finally packaged and are important for the safety and standard of the product. In the past, printing, inkjet, and thermal transfer were used to print. Nowadays, laser printing has been widely used.

Laser printing for packaging

Laser printing technology itself has long been used as a surface for printing on metal parts and electronic parts. A laser printing method that can be adapted to packaging use, and a part of which adopts a carbonation laser method, which is mainly divided into two types, one of which is to use the irradiation energy of the laser to carbonize the surface of the irradiated part to trace the text, and the other is to be able to describe the text beforehand. After the ink layer printed on the ground is removed by laser, the method of drawing the characters in the ground color is exposed. These practices are primarily for carton and thicker resin surfaces, which feature no special consumables and reduced operating costs.

However, there is a problem in that when the surface of the irradiated portion is carbonized, carbonic acid gas is inevitably generated, and further, the cutting sheet becomes a dust splash when the printing is performed by cutting.

In the face of the above problems, the dust collector is currently used to cope with it. In the packaging of pharmaceuticals and foods, it should be carried out in the purification room. However, the market is eager to develop a laser-free printing method. The current imprint method, which prints on the surface, cannot be denied that the printed content may become blurred due to friction or dirt. Furthermore, in the conventional food packaging, flexible packaging using a plastic film is the mainstream, and thus it is possible to damage the packaging substrate. Therefore, the above-mentioned laser printing method using carbonization or cutting cannot be said to be very suitable for the products using flexible packaging.
