THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBON, in a nutshell, is the process of transferring ink from a ribbon media to a paper or film using heat and pressure. When the label passes through the printhead and the finale of the printer, the ink is transferred. Printed on the label.
Thermal transfer ribbon
A thermal transfer ribbon is a polyester or other high density film coated with a wax-based, resin-based or mixed ink on one side. Apply lubricant to the side without the ink to prevent wear and damage to the printhead. The handle and front strap are in front of the ribbon and the rear strap is at the end of a roll (some without a rear strap).
Leader Tape: The front strap is generally transparent or other colors. He has the following functions:
* Easy to use: easy to bring the ribbon to the printer
* Product identification: Product name, company name and trademark can be printed for marketing and sales promotion.
* Protection: used to protect the ribbon.
Original composition (Imaging Components)
The original tape is generally composed of five layers, a top coat, an ink layer, an inner coat, a tape base and a back coat.
The ink layer is the most important for printing and determining the properties of the ribbon, such as chemical resistance and abrasion resistance.
The inner coating is primarily used to smooth the printed surface and to provide uniform ink release from the tape.
The tape base is the carrier of the other layers and determines the performance of heat transfer.
The top coat is mainly used to improve the adhesion of the ink on the label and enhance the environmental resistance.
The back coat is simply a special coat applied to the back of the ribbon that acts to reduce printhead wear; reduce static generation and enhance heat transfer.
The Trailer Tape generally acts as a warning to allow the printer to sense the end of the ribbon. The difference in the printer determines the different rear straps. There are three main types:
1. Aluminized (silver): mainly for reflective sensors, reflected light indicates the end of the ribbon.
2. Transparent: For transmissive sensors, allowing light to pass through means that the ribbon is used up.
3. For mechanical sensing, the change in the printer's induced tension indicates that the ribbon is used up.
Core
The core of the ribbon is usually made of paper or plastic. The main requirement is that it cannot be deformed and cannot slide when printed.
