There are so-called three Cs for color management, namely, Calibration, Characterization, and Conversion. The description refers to how to record the color performance of input devices and printing devices, and how to turn these records into ICC profiles. The format (ICCProfile) process, commonly used tools include: PrintOpen, ProfileMaker, ColorVision, Viewopen, ProfileWizard and so on. Conversion refers to how to perform color space conversion on a certain device according to the data in the ICC profile to achieve the purpose of color space simulation. If the device is a screen of a Mac computer, the conversion work is the Colorsync in the system. If the device is a printer, the conversion server is the print server with the color engine installed. The more common ones are: BestColor, BlackMagic, Startproof, Pressready, etc.
Calibration is not taken seriously
Color management is closely related to digital drafting. The former is theory and process, and the latter is specific application. At present, the most popular products in the color management market belong to the two Cs of description and conversion, and most of them are related to digital drafting, and the price ranges from 100 US dollars to 100,000 US dollars. Since digital drafting is the most important part of the CtP production process, the attention of most printing companies is also on how to purchase ICCProfile production software and how to purchase color printing engines. Many seminars and workshops also use the demonstration ICCProfile production and color conversion as a selling point. As for the first C (calibration) of color management, it is not taken lightly at the seminar, which is rarely mentioned, a color management The system integration supplier also believes that the printing companies have been working in the current printing mode for many years, and naturally there is no problem. Therefore, when they make the ICC profile of digital proofing, they all assume that the printing machine has been calibrated. As to whether this assumption is true, and if this assumption is incorrect, what will be the consequences, they said that there is nothing to do, if the customer insists that they help to calibrate the printing, ICCProfile, they will advise customers to please Gaoming.
Is calibration important?
At what level is the calibration, what is the difference between the printing companies, and what effect will it have? Few printing companies will think hard. Moreover, there is no simple answer to answer. In fact, some printing companies use color management and digital drafting, mainly to save costs, after deducting film and drafting, there is a greater price reduction. For these printing companies, calibration is not important. Anyway, as long as the customer is willing to accept the goods, it is best not to prepare for digital drafting.
However, if the printing company adopts color management and digital drafting, it is hoped that there will be a more stable proof that can be used with CtP technology to improve the quality of production. If you want to calibrate, you must take it seriously.
