Along with the continuous advancement of computer technology, simulator training, which is fundamentally different from previous physical education training, has been used in many industries. The French company Sinapse, which is dedicated to simulator development, has also developed a simulator system suitable for printing. However, the simulation system has not been promoted in the domestic printing industry. It is not known to the printing enterprises. The Hubei Vocational and Technical College, which I am in, first purchased 3 sets of SHOTS (single sheet offset printing system) simulation system in Central China. I also had the privilege of participating in several training sessions and conferences on the simulation system. I have a general understanding of the printing simulation system. Let me talk about the simulation system in my experience!
SHOTS was developed and launched by French company Sinapse after 15 years of research and development. It is a printing simulator for the whole simulation of Roland 700 printing press. It brings together the practical experience of printing experts from Europe and contains more than 600 printing faults. A six-color printing simulation from paper feeding to printing to delivery was built, which included a series of modules such as plates, blankets, inks, fountain solutions, and paper.
Through this system, the operator can intuitively feel the printing press as if operating a real printing press. The principle of this simulation system is that you only learn by making mistakes - but you can make mistakes on the analog system instead of the press. Compared to actual printing, the printing simulation system does not produce paper, ink consumption, and printer wear. The safety of trained operators is also guaranteed because they do not require an actual machine and only need to be operated on a computer. Of course, there are many reasons to use the analog system.
1. Three highlights of SHOTS
For the learning and improvement of printing technology, fault diagnosis is undoubtedly a good tool. In actual printing, the diagnosis of faults by the workers is generally based on their own practical experience, so the cause of the fault can only be based on their own experience. The longer the working time and the richer the experience, the more accurate the judgment. However, the accumulation of these experiences can not be accumulated in a day or two. Some faults are not seen even in the enterprise for ten or eight years. The SHOTS simulation system gives us a shortcut, which will cause every fault. Listed, from these reasons we can easily find a solution and be impressed, the next time in the actual printing operation, even if we have not actually encountered these faults before, it can be easily excluded.
Its simulation of printing time costs and printing costs is also a bright spot, which is somewhat similar to a printed ERP management system. In the simulator, paper consumption, material consumption (including ink, dampening solution, etc.), component replacement, etc. all cost a certain amount of money. As long as the unit quantity loss value is pre-designed, the simulator will automatically calculate the cost of consumption during the user's operation and display it in the lower left corner of copydesk. At the same time, there is also a calculation of time cost in the simulator. Corresponding to the operation of each step, the SHOTS has its corresponding time consumed in the actual operation, and the operator can use this module to know the time and cost required to solve the problem when encountering the actual problem.
Through this function, the operator can basically test the time cost and cost of the actual printing failure, so as to make a preliminary assessment of their own capabilities. More importantly, a series of operations can be used to find an optimal operation plan to find unnecessary operating procedures and losses, so as to maximize the actual benefits of printing.
In addition, the SHOTS simulation system can also simulate small changes in actual printing. We know that a small change in one parameter in actual printing may result in a large difference in the quality of printed matter, while SHOTS can simulate the variation of the sample when the parameter changes ( This is undoubtedly a big highlight by the proofs taken in copydesk. The operator can intuitively observe the impact of each parameter on the printing process, thus providing a deeper understanding of the printing process.
2. Use of SHOTS
SHOTS simulates the reproduction of faults and errors in the production of real presses in the form of software. The system includes more than 300 practice exercises, including about 200 GATF standard offset printing process training and exam questions, as well as a variety of other standard practice questions. The operator can have a substantial understanding of the printing process through the exercises, and gradually accumulate experience in solving printing problems through continuous practice.
There are two modes in SHOTS training: standard mode and practice mode. Below I will briefly introduce the two modes.
There is no fault setting in the standard mode, which can be used to train the novices. By changing the parameters inside to observe the changes of the “samples”, there is a preliminary understanding of the meaning of each parameter. For example, when we explain the ink-and-wash balance to the trainees in the training, we use this model to increase the amount of water or ink, print out the proofs, and explain the reasons for the problem proofs. The abstract theory becomes simple and easy to understand. At the same time, the operator can gradually grasp the values of some parameters through continuous practice, such as the normal printing pressure of the model at each printing speed, the size of the position of the feeder to the gas path, etc., which will be printed on the future. Provides effective setup parameters, reducing the time and cost of troubleshooting. This is the ultimate goal of SHOTS training.
The practice mode includes the offset printing process training and exam questions and other exercises of the aforementioned 200 GATF standards. This model is mainly used to train people with practical experience and is the best means to test theoretical knowledge. A large part of the student's study assessment is achieved through this link. We know that the same fault may be caused by many aspects, but the main factors are one or two. How to find the main reason from many factors, this is To have a strong adaptability and intuition for the operator, we found that the trainees can solve most problems, but the efficiency of solving the problem is very different. The main reason is that there is no good way to solve the problem, and all possible causes are Debugging, of course, can finally find the cause to solve the problem. The SHOTS practice mode has its own characteristics in this respect. This series of exercises are set by the printing experts through the analysis of long-term printing data. They are the most common problem faults in the printing house. Through the answers to these exercises, the operator The system's knowledge system can be gradually formed, and when a printing failure occurs, the cause can be quickly found and a solution can be proposed to minimize the cost.
Participants can also edit the exercises themselves through the Trainer module to conduct targeted assessments of the trainees. Its advantage is that it can set different levels of difficulty for the different professional levels of the trainees, so that all trainees get the training that suits them best and truly “teaching students according to their aptitude”. Especially for printing companies, the production processes suitable for specific enterprises are different. SHOTS can produce exercises for experienced employees based on the characteristics of their own enterprises, and conduct targeted training or skill evaluation for their employees. The purpose of training or skill assessment is clearer and more effective. This is also what we are going to do next. We will introduce the enterprises in the society to our training classrooms, and carry out different training programs for specific enterprises so that the students can go out of the classroom and get on the machine.
In addition, in actual printing, a small change in each parameter will lead to a large difference in print quality. SHOTS achieves a comprehensive reproduction of this process. The result of each parameter change can be reproduced in the extracted "sample", which can simulate the printing process, and every change in the printing parameters may affect other units of printing. We can get a test by these parameters. The series of process reference data, to complete some printability experiments, this can also provide us with first-hand information on experimental research.
However, in use, we still feel that SHOTS is not intuitive enough. All the operation interfaces are two-dimensional. In order to make up for this deficiency, the software can let the students see the real operation of the printing machine through multimedia, and these video materials. It can be added in specific places according to your own needs, which brings great convenience to training and teaching. After talking with Mr. Yanjing Xingzong, I learned that the SHOTS system can be connected to a CPC console. Through these measures, I believe that the students can have a real immersive feeling and a more intuitive and profound understanding of the printing process.
3. The outlook of SHOTS
Compared to real printers, the cost of SHOTS training is very low. First of all, the price of SHOTS is not high, which is more obvious than a real printing machine. Secondly, the printing machine needs constant maintenance during use, and the simulation training can save these operations and costs. Third, compared to the training on the machine, the simulation training does not have any safety hazards, the operator's safety is completely guaranteed. Fourth, the simulation software training cycle is short and flexible, and can train multiple people in a short time. . It can be seen that compared with the training on the machine, the cost advantage of the simulation training is very obvious in terms of time and cost. As Peter Herman, chairman of Sinapse, said, “The price of this software is less than one percent of the price of a printing press. If a real printing press needs to train printers for three to five years, and one machine Only 4 workers can be trained, and our training simulator software can train 20 to 30 workers, which takes only 18 months."
Even well-trained employees can benefit from some training courses on this software. In general, printers do not know the cost of producing low-grade materials. Waste will be disposed of, and the cost is known to only a few people. This software will enable the trainee to see the cost (profit or loss) of his actions in real time during the training session. He will understand why mistakes are often costly. This can increase the awareness of the operator, which in turn leads to a greater sense of responsibility. At the same time, trainers can create simulations of various production faults for training based on the level of training of trainees, so that they can increase their skills and improve production efficiency.
As mentioned above, the role of SHOTS in printing training is quite obvious. The low cost, practicality and short training period are undoubtedly the first factors to be considered by the printing enterprise training staff, and SHOTS has many advantages. Therefore, in the next few years, more and more enterprises will inevitably choose SHOTS, and the use of SHOTS will become more and more extensive. Because it can simulate the printing scene more realistically on the computer, the operator will have an immersive feeling, as if he is operating the printing machine, and learn and understand the printing principle in the process of software operation, fully grasp the printing failure. Professional technical knowledge such as elimination methods shortens the growth period of the captain and reduces production consumption. SHOTS will definitely bring revolutionary changes to the talent training model of the printing industry, especially the training mode of the captain.
In the next few years, a major challenge for the offset printing industry is to set “skills standards” for its employees – the standards that talents in all fields are expected to achieve, and the two-year national printing skills competition is also on schedule. It also promotes the identification of printing professional qualifications. How to establish an effective and reasonable mechanism to assess the printing occupational level is a difficult problem, because there is a question of how to establish a fair and reasonable external environment and how to establish a set of standardized evaluation criteria. SHOTS provides us with a good platform.
Of course, the SHOTS printing simulation system still provides a simulated environment. It does not completely replace the actual training method of the machine operation. However, it can be fully practiced on the SHOTS printing simulation system before the machine operation, but the training on the machine can be greatly shortened. Time, saving training costs. SHOTS simulation training will undoubtedly become the trend of printing training. Just as Mr. Shen Zhongkang, a consultant of the China Printing Technology Association, said that China's printing industry is in a transitional stage, and the technological and quality improvement of its personnel has great strategic significance. And this set of advanced and practical software just meets the needs of corporate training, while saving a lot of money for the enterprise.
Today, SHOTS is not only favored by major printing colleges around the world, but some printing companies and printing consumable suppliers are also beneficiaries of the SHOTS printing simulation system. It is believed that in the near future, with the advancement of computer simulation technology, the SHOTS printing simulation system will be more perfect and can be truly immersive in actual operation. This will be based on its advanced training concept, innovative training methods and excellent performance. The training effect has won the favor of more enterprises and colleges, and set off a revolution in the training of talents in the printing industry.
