Remote system is not novel

In mid-1999, a large listed institution in Hong Kong cooperated with some computer software companies. The big thing is to promote the new concept of the so-called software - remote system; the principle is that users do not need to buy software, just pay the rental fee, use the modem to connect to the remote server (server), you can use some daily applications software, Such as accounting systems, personnel management systems, but it seems that the concept has not been affected by the public.

In my opinion, the biggest reason for their failure to succeed is that they store important customer data on a remote server. For customers, this arrangement is very sensitive, because the accounting information is extremely important, no matter the company is large or small. Personnel information is also very sensitive to the company and its staff. It must be kept confidential and placed on someone else's server. It is a bit unreliable. In case the security program is out of order, all important information will be easy to "go through the sky"! Second, In case the other party's server is down, the data is lost, who is responsible? From now on, the concept seems to be gone.

Recall that in 1995, I also had the idea of a remote system. In the past, I implemented the "Printing Distance Estimation System". The printer modem connected to our company's server. Each company has an independent user password, company database, cost material database, etc. After login, the price of printing, nailing, material, opening, processing, transportation, etc. can be calculated, and the report is printed on the user's computer. Such a novel concept attracted many printing experts to participate in the system exhibition and symposium; but the idea was not successful, summing up the reasons, probably because the concept of "distance" came too early, I am faster than the market 4 year!

For us, "distance" is not a novel concept.

Predecessor experience

Back in time, let us first review how former people have made improvements in print management, how to use print management systems to strengthen the management of internal and external enterprises, to see how the consumer's mentality changes, but also to look at you now or in the past. The idea belongs to that era, and then understands that its positioning in the market is to go ahead of the market, or follow the market, or go against the market?

In the 1970s – there was no concept of a computer system in the industry, and all management was also managed by “people”.

In the 1980s – the concept of the system sprouted, and the line began to realize the importance of systemic management, recording daily operations with simple resources such as forms and whiteboards. By the end of the 1980s, some experts began to try to develop printed computer systems on their own or outsourced, and initially sought the assistance of computers in the form of forms and whiteboards.

In the early 1990s, a small number of relatively large-scale printers adopted a self-developed or outsourced development of a print management system. The system content was tailored to individual manufacturers and tailored; while most manufacturers also invested in management systems. At the time of the embarrassing attitude, the first generation, and the only commercial printing management system produced in Hong Kong - "KenMac Printing and Valuation System" has appeared at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center's printing exhibition, which caught the attention of the industry. Some large companies and Hong Kong Printing also sent special personnel to the booth to understand the operation of the system.

Mid-1990s – In addition to the package made in Hong Kong, some manufacturers choose foreign packages, or they still go back to the old roads they developed themselves, but the success of the latter two cases is limited. In addition, many experts still only focus on advanced machines and ignore management.

In the late 1990s – it was the era of a hundred flowers, and the weak and strong, who is the most specialized in the printing industry, who can occupy the market. Self-developed systems are no longer a sensible choice. Experts need instant forms of instant noodles, software systems must be instant, and a truly comprehensive system of printing professionals seems to have limited options.

2000 – Entering the millennium, technology and human thoughts are also advanced. The industry will add more strength to management. The management system is an inevitable partner. On the other hand, consumer consumption patterns are beginning to change. "no asset" and buy it first, in addition to the traditional form of buying or selling packages, alternative software models are also born in the market – renting a print management system.

Internet version, rental version, ASP quickly appear

At present, the more conservative industries are more likely to accept scientific management. Together with the cooperation of the Internet and computer hardware, some new concepts such as Internet systems, system leases, and ASP (Application Service Provider) are rapidly emerging. To the different requirements and needs of the market, consumers' choices are also more flexible.

Usually, the price of such a system will be low, attracting a large number of users at a more economical price, and increasing market share. At the same time, if the category is a specialized, complex, and high-value system, the form of leasing is more popular in the industry, and it is definitely helpful to manufacturers and good for the whole industry.

For the rental version of the mentioned print management system, the purchase price is more than 100,000, and the rental price is only a few thousand dollars. The response is enthusiastic.

Technology stocks awakened

There was a news interview with a stockholder who lost money because of the "explosion" of technology stocks, but he had a very encouraging speech: "I will make money after the weak and stay strong."

Some people may have a good spirit when they hear it. They think that weak (others) will go, and the time for strong (self) will come, and they will definitely rebound after the bottom. But the cruel fact is that the strong is not necessarily you, maybe the weak has made a change, stronger than you, then you become a weaker.

In the same way, if you manage well, you will ignore it. In time, others must be stronger than you. The most realistic fact is that even if you sell at the same time, the stock price with good management must be higher than the management!

It is absolutely time to improve the management of the company. Every company in the printing industry, no matter the size, needs a management system. As Mr. Tung Chee-hwa said: "Hong Kong is good, everyone is good", applied in the industry, "Hello, the whole printing industry is good.
