Not long ago, the famous binding design artist Mr. Lu Jingren, in an interview with the media, put forward a frank criticism of the over-design problem that has been widely used in the recent binding industry: "The disadvantages of over-design, over-packaging, content and form in today's design, The phenomenon of the protagonist and the supporting role is reversed, that is, the so-called transcendental text theme is not marginal decoration, and the fancy design of the frustration is overwhelming, and the extravagant or externally strong external exaggeration of the frame, especially in order to achieve economic appeal, infinitely add a nameless album with no cost. The postal book does not detract from the spread of the book culture. It must not be promoted."

Mr. Lu’s words are worthy of the public’s thoughts. Although, he talked about such phenomena, it is not the mainstream of today's book design community. In fact, with the introduction of the book market system, many publishers no longer have to make big and complete flowers for the awards, more and more The publisher of taste pays more attention to the value of the book itself, rather than relying on a beautiful piece of skin to please the reader, or a sly package to bluff. However, it is undeniable that although various parties have repeatedly called for persuading books to be over-packaged, the problem of over-design has not died down, but rather has become more and more powerful. There are many things involved in binding, and the cover, title and illustration are the three main design elements. It should be acknowledged that some book covers are designed to be too gorgeous and not simple. The Chinese traditional tradition of books is simple and elegant. What we want is 拙, and what we get is glamorous. In addition to the opening, it seems that there is a growing trend, and more and more shaped copies are being made. The enlargement of the book is convenient for the picture between the characters, which is convenient for making a "picture book", but the most direct problem brought by it is that the volume and weight of the book are significantly increased, and the reader is prone to fatigue due to the long reading time. And it is not easy to read, organize and store. There are also many books and magazines, arbitrarily increase the font size and line spacing, the text is not blank enough, or inadvertently add illustrations, or even use the text to deviate from the infringement and other irresponsible practices, mass production of "water injection books" to deceive readers.

The excessive tendency of pursuing luxury in book binding has aggravated the burden of readers and wasted social resources, causing many people's dissatisfaction. The cause of this is complicated, but the important factor that cannot be ignored is obviously: some publishing houses are engaged in publishing. In the activity, the word "profit" took the lead and gave up the self-discipline of professional ethics to the publisher. In the eyes of these publishers, book binding is no longer exists as an art. It has only become a means of promotion. "Three-point goods, seven-packs" Well, because of the over-emphasis on the cover function of the book, I thought it was a good one. As long as the text has a beautiful face, the book can attract readers, ignoring the unity of text and form. The textual information architecture is aging, non-creative editorial ideas, and lacks the exquisite illustration editing desires with appreciation value. Science and technology books do not have systematic and persuasive visual interpretation of images and data; humanities books copy and copy from form to row, do not encourage originality, do not want to invest in the organization of expert creation, even to save labor and cost from the network Downloading low-quality images is not wrong; children's books do not study the expressions with vivid expressions that conform to children's psychology; art-like readings lack attempts to have individuality and new reading patterns... This commercialized impetuousness causes industry ills that are quick and profitable. The state not only hinders the healthy development of the art of bookbinding, but also damages the public image of the publishing industry. Many responsible publishers are also affected by this, bearing the nickname of “untrustworthy”.
