First, the Japanese printing market
1. Market environment
In the printing market and print media-related market environment, the Japanese printing industry has undergone major changes, such as long-term economic stagnation, the prevalence of various information media, declining birth rates and social aging, and the 2011 earthquake in eastern Japan. Such severe environmental changes have caused the printing market to be sluggish, and this trend will continue. According to industry statistics made by government departments, the business volume of printing companies with more than four employees in 2011 decreased by 7.5% from the previous year, and the output value decreased to 5.6 trillion yen.
According to the research report of the Japan Printing Industry Alliance, the transaction volume of the Japanese printing market will drop from 7.9 trillion yen in 2010 to 7.4 trillion yen in 2020, a decrease of 6% from 2010.
2. The challenges facing the printing industry
Printing companies that fail to adapt to market changes will continue to emerge. The debate surrounding the reform of the industrial business model and innovative actions centered on digital and electronic media has continued; at the same time, various related activities are underway.
Second, the Japanese printing machinery market
1.2012 trading situation
Compared with the previous year, the total production of printing machinery and equipment fell by 2.1%, and the output value fell to 157.3 billion yen. This output value is less than half of that before the Lehman incident. Compared with last year, the total export volume of printing equipment fell by 11.9%, and the amount of foreign exchange decreased to 133.3 billion yen. The decline in exports to Europe and East Asia, including China and South Korea, has had a huge impact on Japanese printing equipment exports. Looking at the output value of different types of printing machinery products, printing equipment fell by 2.7%, plate making equipment by 3.3%, bookbinding equipment by 2.2%, and paper processing equipment by 0.8%. The printing industry is affected by market downturns in all aspects, including production and exports.
2. Outlook from 2013 to 2014
The Japanese market will continue to adopt a cautious wait-and-see attitude toward capital injection. This trend stems from the unstable demand for print media brought about by economic sluggishness and diversification of information media. However, capital investment in certain special areas is active, such as increasing investment in printing process efficiency and environmental safety.
In overseas markets, we see that in some emerging countries, including Southeast Asian countries, their markets are very active. The economies of North America and Western Europe seem to be recovering from the worst times. These conditions are considered positive factors, and we are looking forward to the economic recovery. The recent yen foreign exchange market situation is also encouraging for Japanese manufacturers. In such a market environment, the expectations of the Japanese printing machinery manufacturing industry for the demand of the Chinese printing industry have gradually increased.
3. Japan International Printing Exhibition 2013 (JGAS2013)
