The great prosperity of poetry is one of the cultural driving forces for the emergence of dragon scale costumes. The Tang Dynasty was a golden age for the development of poetry. Poetry, especially near-rhythm poetry, not only requires strict rhyme, but also requires elegance and evidence in the choice of words and sentences, and the use of allusions. As a result, books with the nature of dictionaries and reference books, such as books that can be used for reference and review at any time, and rhyme books for rhyming poems and checking rhythms, have been produced, developed, and disseminated to society. Therefore, the way of writing and binding of such books should be changed accordingly in accordance with the principle of convenience for reading at any time. Therefore, the ancients created a binding form that did not break the appearance of the scroll outfit, but also achieved the purpose of easy removal-dragon scale outfit. Although this binding still retains the appearance of a scroll-bound book that was popular at the time, the inner pages are like modern books, and the pages written on both sides can be turned over. This solves the disadvantage of the inconvenience of inspection of the scroll, but it does not break through the trap of the scroll. Therefore, the dragon scale suit is an improvement on the scroll suit, and it is a transitional form. After the appearance of the Song Dynasty thread-bound book, the dragon scale binding was annihilated, and its binding technique has been extinct for more than a thousand years.
Process
After reverse deduction, Mr. Li Huaiqian first deduced that the binding method of the dragon scale handscroll should be as follows: a long strip of paper (or silk silk and other materials) slightly wider than the pages of the book was used as the bottom of the scroll, and then the pages of the double-sided script were glued to the bottom paper one by one. The gluing method is that except for the first page which is only single-sided and the whole width is glued to the right end of the bottom paper, the rest of the pages are double-sided, so each page can only be glued to the bottom paper with a blank strip of a certain width without words on the right. The specific gluing method is: apply glue and paste at the empty strip without words on the right side of the second page, stick it at the end of the paste strip on the first page and align it with the paste strip on the first page and paste it on the bottom paper. Then open the second page to the right, glue the unwritten blank strip on the right side of the third page, and paste it on the bottom paper at the back of the second page. After drying, turn the second page to the right and glue the third and fourth pages according to the previous method...... until glued through. Finally, with the shaft rod at the right end of the bottom paper as the core, roll up and bundle from the beginning to the end, or from right to left, and the binding is finished.
