Hardcover books are a more elaborate form of binding in book publishing. Compared with paperback books, hardcover books have the advantages of sophisticated materials, solid binding, beautiful decoration, and long-term preservation. Classic books, fine-printed books, and frequently read reference books are generally hardcover. With the development of the publishing industry, there are more and more hardcover books.

There are several common forms of hardcover books:

First, according to the form of the spine, there are two kinds of square spine and round spine.

1. The square spine is thicker than the book block. Due to the folding of the book block and the cable, the height of the spine is higher than that of the book block, and the more the printed sheet, the more obvious. Therefore, the hardcover book of the square spine should not be too thick, generally suitable for the spine within 20mm.

2, the circular spine, because the position of the front and back of the book is slightly different, the fold of the book is slightly semi-circular, distributed on a curved surface, the thickness is balanced. The opening of the book block is adapted to the convex shape of the spine and is concave and round. Therefore, thicker books use a round spine. The round spine book is formed by rounding the back spine into a circular arc shape. Generally, the book core thickness is 130° for the string and the arc pair. The round ridge can be divided into two types: a round back without a ridge (only a round can not be ridged) and a round back with a ridge (a rounded ridge, the height of the ridge is generally the same as the thickness of the cardboard of the book case).

Second, according to the use of materials, can be divided into two types of ridge surface and ridge surface.

1. The ridge surface is the same material, that is, the spine and the cover of the cover are made of the same material of the whole piece. There are two kinds of square ridges and round ridges. Hardcover fabrics are mostly made of paper, fabric, lacquer paper, varnish, etc., and are generally equipped with a protective cover. However, there is a kind of full-printed book name, pattern, etc., and the film is embossed on the cardboard. Most of the books are square ridges without a protective cover.

2, the ridge surface dissimilar material, that is, the spine and the cover are made of different materials, usually the fabric is used as the spine, and the paper is used as the cover on the hard paper plate. This form is generally a round ridge without a protective cover.
