The traditional color matching process has always relied on the skills and experience accumulated by the operators for many years. A reliable spot color ink distributor can take at least 8 to 10 years to fully control the color change during the ink adjustment. If the printer uses 2-3 brands of ink, it will take more time to adapt to their color characteristics. Take the four-color blue as an example:

Of course, the inks produced in different regions are also different. The inks produced in Europe and the United States have higher concentrations of yellow inks. On the contrary, the inks produced in Japan and Asia are more arrogant. These constantly changing factors affect the color matching staff's judgment on the color of the ink.

In today's printing industry, reliable and experienced color matching staff can also be said to be rare and rare. In addition, if the current printing factory hires or hires skilled workers who can immediately cooperate with the job, how can they spend another ten or eight years training color matching personnel?

Traditional color scheme

Master usually finds the approximate ink type from past experience or from the color of the spot color. Some of them only take the part by personal feeling, then use the electronic pound to measure the required amount and put the ink on the color palette. After the mixing is completed, take a small amount and scrape the excellent tape on the substrate to check whether the color is correct or not. When color cast is found, a small amount of ink is added for fine adjustment. After the completion, the amount and type of ink are carefully recorded on the recording crucible to prepare a large amount of spot color ink. The ink and the amount to be added for the color cast described above.

If it is necessary to mix a bright blue (standard), after the first mixing, it is found that the blue is slightly reddish. At this time, a small amount of green or yellow should be added to move the ink in the green direction, and so on. When the blue color is found to be dim, add an appropriate amount of pure blue ink to increase its color purity; instead, adding black or gray ink will make the blue back deep.

Using the above method to assign spot colors is the easiest and straightforward, but there are two disadvantages that cannot be controlled:

(1) When more different types of inks are added, the ink will become dirty and the degree of vividness will be greatly reduced.

(2) The amount is difficult to control, and it is often several times more than the expected amount.

(3) Adding a large amount of white ink, although it can increase the hiding power and instantly detect the hue, it has reduced the resistance to India and printability.

(4) Can not use the color of the paper itself, to match the spot color ink, and increase the application of white ink.

(5) The thickness of the ink is difficult to control.

(6) The level is unstable, and there are often problems due to the technical deviation of the color matching personnel, and there is no objective judgment.

The shortcomings mentioned just now often occur when using traditional methods to dispense ink. I believe this is a waste of money for the boss. It can neither meet customer requirements and waste time and resources. If the guest asks for reprinting, it is not a problem for one to two weeks, but if they are one to two years apart, it is not so simple. There are many reasons for this:

1) The printing factory has switched to other brand inks, and the color and concentration are greatly different.

2) If the same brand of ink is used, the formula used by the ink factory may have changed, so the ink cannot be blended with the same amount.

3) If printing with old ink, the ink will be stored for a long time, and the color and printing characteristics, such as drying and gloss, will also change.

All of the above three situations make it difficult for us to copy the same color. In many cases, in order to meet the customer's requirements, the ink is continuously wasted. Finally, they are stored in the warehouse. Sometimes it takes less than three to four weeks to deploy. When it comes to it, there is really nothing to do. If you have a large amount of ink, you can find an ink supplier. If you use a small amount of application, such as 4 or 5 kilograms, how can the supplier care about us? So, are we not waiting for the rabbit?

Modern color scheme

I believe that everyone knows that it can solve the problems caused by the above traditional printing technology, regardless of cost, time and confidence. In recent years, the development of the mature computer ink formulation system (Ink Formulation System) may be a good solution, but many people misunderstand its true meaning, after all, we want an accurate, qualified product, then we are today How to adjust ink and color? Try a little time and take a look at this introduction.

tool

If a worker wants to do something good, he must first sharpen his tools. Of course we have to prepare the necessary equipment:

(1) milligram electronic scale - an electronic scale capable of measuring the weight of three digits after the decimal point.

(2) Ink-adjusting knives--similar to the application of the factory, it is more suitable to prepare different types of different sizes.

(3) Glass - depending on the amount of ink, the general test can be 18" x 36".

(4) Proofing machine--An instrument that can print ink on the substrate on average, and can control the thickness such as IGT (Fig. 6) and RK (Fig. 7) with the amount of ink.

(5) Computer ink formula software - can calculate ink data and formula, build a database and other functions such as GretagMacbeth (Ink Formulation), X-Rite (Color Master).

(6) Spectroscopic Densitometer: Application of Measurement Principle

(7) Substrate--To build a database, it is recommended to select paper without fluorescent whitening agent, which can be applied in both coated and non-coated colors.

(8) Ink--based on the printing of four colors, coupled with the commonly used spot color CMYK, transparent ink, white ink, purple ink, green ink and orange ink, etc., in order to minimize the number of inks, the most spot color Ink. (The 12 inks will be the main color matching in the future)

(9) Standard color light box - ideal for use with UV light, D50, D65 and A light source. This allows simultaneous observation of the same-color dissimilarity of the print under different light sources.
