Q: What is your favorite pop-up book master?

A: The first reaction is Matthew Rainhart of the United States. In fact, every pop-up book designer at home and abroad has its own characteristics, and people who like complex and dazzling structures may choose him for this, and many people also think that Robert Sabuta, who won the three-time Megendorf Award, is well deserved. But what I admire about Ryan Hart is his dedication to expressing children's obsession with playthings that I am most passionate about in my eyes, and it makes me feel that he also has a sincere childlike heart. Through the unpredictable three-dimensional structure, Rainhart shows the audience not only the superb skill, but also the love of things behind the skill. This makes him and his works always so eye-catching and refreshing.

Q: What is your future vision for pop-up books?

A: First of all, I still hope to make the core competitiveness of the studio better, whether it is teaching or works, it needs to be replaced to produce better results. The second is to continue to maintain communication with academic organizations around us, hoping to contribute more to the domestic pop-up book circle. Our alliance has already exported a lot of resources in this regard on the online platform, and in the future, it will combine the dissemination of pop-up books online and offline, involving physical books, projects and activities. In general, I hope to cultivate this soil more colorful.

Q: Do you have any advice for young people who are interested in entering this industry?

A: As a young person, I think I really like it first. In my opinion, the production of pop-up books is a very test of the author's insistence on it, without that persistence, it is not good to do pop-up books. It involves drawing, design, some math and geometry, and you need to make mistakes and adjustments along the way. I've had students of all ages complain about the hassle of making pop-up books, but every time I gloat – yes, it's that much trouble, but people don't marvel at the simplicity of what is easy to do. With this love and enthusiasm, other qualities can be slowly formed.

As far as I know, there are no colleges and universities to establish systematic pop-up book majors, but there are already some colleges and universities such as book binding and design majors that have opened related short-term courses, and there are also long-term cooperative relations with our alliance like the Central Academy of Fine Arts, training and publicity and technical support in colleges and universities, in general, with the help of resources and forces outside the college, and this part of the resources is accumulated by the people in the pop-up book circle themselves.
