Digital proofing is like a battle blueprint for attacking a fortress. To paint this correct winning blueprint, color management profile is an indispensable message.
It is a pity that many printing companies that participated in the battle first, because of the use of incorrect profile information, have produced incorrect digital proofing, and the CTP process has been mistaken, resulting in a loss of soldiers. In recent years, the author has participated in digital proofing and has been bruised and bruised. Therefore, I would like to take a look at some of the problems that led to mistakes by using the printed arts conference. I would like to ask the industry to be advanced, and the results will be inspiring.
Digital proofing is an inexpensive color expression model to simulate the actual color expression of printing equipment, allowing us to save time and material costs. In theory, this is the color space conversion between the output devices. As long as the digital proofing equipment we use has a gamut space larger than the printing ink, the proofing accuracy is greater than the printing requirement, and the color sample is in accordance with the time limit. We can completely control the color effects of various output devices such as lithography, gravure, embossing, silk screen printing and flexo printing through software control. With the maturity of current equipment, consumables and software, this road should not be a difficult road to the sky, but more likely a road to add value to the company. So what is the reason for us to walk and collide everywhere?
The four parameters that affect the color space conversion: the basic linearity of the proofing equipment must be set at the beginning. It reflects the color expression characteristics of the nozzle and ink; the paper characteristics used for proofing are not difficult to obtain, and the IT8 color meter can be sprayed. Read generation; reference CTF or CTP output exposure curve also has control experience; these 3 aspects should be more reliable. The problem is that we want the fourth parameter printing equipment characteristics, the credibility is always uncertain. The author collected the printing profiles of dozens of companies, and also printed two IT8 color table production and printing profiles in the two companies. Most of the listed companies are excellent printing companies, and there are many companies that have won the Hong Kong Printing Award and the Guangdong Printing Quality Award. However, they have also had CTP printing and customer disputes, so it is worthwhile to ask questions to find the culprit.

It is not difficult to find that these print characteristic curves that enter the "historical literature" have a smoother dot-expansion curve and a higher expansion rate at the intermediate level. The purity of yellow ink is higher than that of magenta and magnolia. The author has tried to use these three gray balance "canned" curves as the color space conversion parameters between Lab and CMYK. After several round trips, the color values remain basically "persistent". However, the above six self-made profiles only need 2 conversions, and the color space values, especially in the dark color, have already been "renamed." If we use this unbalanced gray linearity as a printing process parameter, how can we avoid color deviation disputes?
Mr. Hong Kong Yin Yi Tang Jianqing asked me to write a little bit about the digital proofing profile. I can only answer: "I mentioned the smoking profile. You must first give me a correctness standard for the profile." Mr. Tang’s point of view is that Profile can’t pass. Gray balance test, must be adjusted to re-produce the printing environment. I asked Mr. Wu Guoqiang, President of Bestcolor Technology, and Mr. Wu’s point of view: “Printing Profile is a description of the characteristics of the printing environment. It does not involve the environment, how many environments do it, and of course the development will gradually be unified.” Actually On the other hand, the author used the curve of the “no standard” Dongguan printing factory to sample the curve, which is closer to the printing color of a certain software company than the “standard”. However, how can such speciality be combined with the versatility of the industry and the versatility of the printing shop?
So, what factors are causing the printing characteristic curve to be so difficult to control? Try to analyze how many variables affect the printing environment. There are different models in the printing shop, different inks, different papers, different plates, how many combinations can they change? How many profiles are generated? In addition, the printing profile generated by ink balance, printing color sequence, printing pressure and printing speed is more varied. If there is a 50% M version of the outlets to expand by 20%, the C version expands the "characteristics" generated in the 10% environment, how can you prevent him from expanding 15% in the M version of the network, and the C version of the outlets to expand the normal printing environment by 15%? What is the color shift? If you make 100 profiles for 100 environment combinations, how do you make it operational?
How to print the profile road? Take a look at our traditional proofing, using standard Japanese 157g double powder, standard DIC ink, standard C.M.Y.K ink concentration to complete the standard proofing. The ink, paper, pressure, and color sequence you print are different. You try to follow my proof. Whether digital proofing can avoid the complexity, but also establish a Hong Kong standard specification, including the printing characteristics of common paper and ink, as the printing color standard that the industry follows. This makes it easier to smooth the printing process and is more conducive to taking orders overseas. The general printing profile has been, and then to pursue a special printing profile, or simply to rectify the special printing environment, unified to the standard printing environment.
The Industry Department has already funded the printing industry to establish Hong Kong printing standard specifications. The first phase will be used to establish the appearance and quality standards of printed products. This is very positive. However, the author's opinion is not as good as the bottom of the market, first put into the production process to do a good job. Do a good job of digital proofing that hinders the development of CTP, and do a good job of printing the profile standard that affects digital proofing.
