7. Simplify the EPS image

If you want to say the final reason, in the PostSript file, the overly complicated path is the culprit that prevents the file from being printed correctly. Paths with too many nodes or smoothing settings are too low, which increases the complexity of the file, causing the laser printer or imagesetter to crash, resulting in a fatal "Limitcheck" or "VMError" PostSript error. In particular, when sending files to a high-resolution output device, you should split complex paths and set high smoothness in llustrator or Macromedia, or use eeHand to simplify path instructions. Use path simplification to reduce path complexity when using Adobe Streamline strokes. Use high tolerance readings in Photoshop to reduce the number of nodes when the selection becomes a clipping path. Do not put EPS images in other EPS files. Like this: Enter several EPS images into an Illustrator file, store them as EPS, place them in a QuarkXPress page, store the page as an EPS, and place it in another QuarkXPress file. If you are lucky, that file happens to print. However, as each layer is placed into the EPS, there will be fewer chances of success. If you have to convert a full page of QuarkXPress EPS into a file that can be clicked by Photoshop. Let Photoshop turn the file into a bitmap image and store it as Photoshop's EPS or TIFF. Either of these two formats does not add an extra layer to the PostSript language.

8. Smooth the gradient

The gradients of mathematical operations using QuarkXPress and Illustrator work well over short distances of a few inches, but if you try to make a subtle gradation of the entire page, PostSript's limitations may lead to a band effect, which will fade in Photoshop. Make a bitmap image (using Add Noise) and enter it into other applications. However, you can't use Photoshop to work with layers in Illustrator. Illustrator files processed by Photoshop do not produce the ideal intermediate gradients compared to the gradients produced directly in the Photoshop palette.

9. Use good fonts

Many output centers don't want to see TrueType words, and PostSript has become a standard. TrueType usually has the same word name as the corresponding PostSript word, causing a conflict. TrueType must be manually downloaded to the RIP of the imagesetter. This is a very time consuming task, contact the output center in advance. Do not use the font command to produce a bold or italic effect. It is best to select the desired font effect directly from the application font menu. If the font doesn't have the desired coarse or oblique effect and uses the glyph command, the MAC will forge a bold or italic effect for each word -- but that's just on the screen. If it is output on the printer, the final print effect will look like it has not been used at all. So what is the effect of using the bottom line? Don't use the fonts that don't have the effect of the font itself. If you are using a beautiful serif or fine stroke font (Bodoni is a good example), and the size of the word is set small, do not divide the word. Otherwise, even if the plate is aligned with a slight misalignment, the overprinting of the most sensitive part will be inaccurate.

10. Color conversion

Convert the RGB colors to CMYK before sending the files to the output. Of course, RGB colors look great on the screen, and many professionals prefer to use RGB mode, but do you know? What do these RGB mode images look like after being color separated or printed (previously many typographic software could not even separate RGB images). Convert images to CMYK format (in Photoshop or other software that can do this conversion) before placing the images in the layout software or before sending them to the output center. To make sure that a spot color is not specified as a color separation, or vice versa, specify the color separation as a spot color. One such mistake would ruin a piece of film. If your time is precious and you spend money on film, this is definitely not what you want. Be sure to identify the colors you define in the layout software, using the same names as in the image processing software. Otherwise, the layout software will process the color separation defined in Illustrator and FreeHand into a spot color. QuarkXPress and PageMaker now recognize this color and pay the color list any color names contained in the EPS file placed in it. Therefore, this danger is not too big, but I will mention it to you here.

11. Using numbers

Two methods are now available in each typesetting software to determine the size and position of the page elements. One method is to tap the perceptual method of dragging the mouse, and the other is an objective method of entering numbers from various dialogs and control panels. To make sure that the width of a box is exactly one and a half inches, the only correct way is to type 1.5" in the width bar instead of aiming or aligning the reference line and size.

12. Set the layout page to the actual size

In the previously unsatisfactory days, prepress workstations and imagesetters were unable to record bleeding portions beyond the page range. If you want to get the right bleeding, you have to change the page size in the layout software to adjust the actual page size and bleeding. This must have a larger page size in order to manually draw and place the cut line, which is error-prone. Today's prepress equipment is no longer hindered by these limitations (the current imagesetter can record larger formats and use wider film). Most printing devices recommend setting the file size to the actual page size, allowing the application to automatically generate correctly positioned crop lines.

13. Organize the files

Talking about this may be superfluous for the veteran, but it has to be forced out again for the novice. In addition to bringing all the image files used in the file, you also need to bring the dot matrix (screen display) and outline words (for printers) of the PostSript word used in the file to the output center. Most of the typesetting software now resembles the QuarkXPress collection output file command, which provides detailed reports on the files and automatically copies the files to a folder, floppy disk or SyQuest disk. If the output center has a higher configuration, they will definitely have an Adobe font so you don't have to bring the words together.

14. Checking documents

In steps 10 and 13, I mentioned, what can be done and what can't be done. Are you listening to the fog? In fact, it is a very simple check. The checks should include: checking every missing page element, not properly defined color and PostSript errors. The inspection tools are as simple as Lepton Technology`s DocumentDoctor for QuarkXPress or Adobe`s CheckList for PageMaker, complex like Systems of Merritt`s LaserCheck or Acquired Knowledge`s Dowmload Mechanic. Panther Proof or Adobe PrePrint Pro can perform screen previews with low-resolution output so you can check and resolve common PostScript errors before exporting.

15. Print the file

Proof output file, to indicate color separation. If you can't find a color printer around, then the method of color labeling used in the past is very useful. It's also necessary to separate each color, which is very useful for hollowing out and overprinting!

16. Make a call and contact the output center

Do not contact the Output Center at the end of the workflow, and contact them from the start. Many output problems can be avoided by contacting the person responsible for the output. Don't think that the files that look good on the MAC screen must meet the requirements of the output center, and how good it will be after printing. Be sure to find out the resolution (number of lines per inch) used in printing, ink and paper. Then set the corresponding number of network lines in the application software. When the negative film is released, it should be explained to the output personnel, otherwise the output personnel will give you a positive film as usual. Time is precious to every publisher. Does the secret of the above several graphic artists save you some time? I hope that through the introduction of the above articles, I can bring some enlightenment to you. The original output is not terrible.
