Since the five printing methods are different, the appropriate printing method must be matched according to the needs of the printed matter, and the printed product can receive the expected effect.

First, typography

There are many words, fewer photos and drawings, more opportunities for text changes, and a small number of prints - hundreds or thousands of prints should be printed in letterpress. The number of typeface printing should not exceed 30,000, and the fine picture electrographic version should not exceed 7,000 or 80,000. Printed pictures must use powder paper to get the perfect dot. Therefore, you can't print pictures with cheap paper and hope to achieve beautiful results. When using the letterpress version of the form, the intersection of the lines is easily separated and disjointed, which is a common disadvantage. In addition, too much pressure at the time of printing or too soft on the surface of the pressure cylinder will cause relief on the back side of the printed sheet, which will greatly reduce the quality of the printed matter.

Second, offset printing

The biggest difference between offset printing and typography is that the typographic printing screen image must use a smooth surface paper, but the offset printing does not have this need, as long as the paper is not too rough. The screen version is softer than the letterpress, making it easy to print round dots.

Resin or nylon is another type of printing plate that is more wearable than the above-mentioned versions. The printing can reach up to one million, which is the longest life in the printing plate. However, the method of using such a plate has been slightly different from the conventional offset printing method, that is, without the wetting system, it is called "dry offset printing".

In general, the more pictures in the printed matter, the larger the picture area, the more appropriate it is to use offset printing instead of typography. As described above, the effect of printing pictures with offset printing is better than that of letterpress printing, in which both general color printing and four-color printing use offset printing instead of letterpress printing.

Third, gravure printing

Gravure printing is suitable for printing high-quality and high-value publications. Whether it is four-color or black-and-white images, gravure printing can be highly similar to photographic photos. Since the plate making fee is expensive and the printing volume must be large, it is the least used in Hong Kong in five printings.

Fourth, screen printing

Since the screen printing ink is particularly thick, it is most suitable to use a special effect printing, and the amount is not large and the ink color is required to be thick. It is also possible to apply a three-dimensional printing such as a square box, a box, a round file, a can, or the like. In addition to paper, the printed base can also be printed, splint, plastic sheet, metal sheet, glass, etc. It is commonly used to print pennants, T-shirts, Watt boxes, sodas, circuit boards, etc. The above various printing features are not possible with other printing methods.

Fifth, offset paper printing (rubber printing)

Tape printing is only suitable for printing plastic bags, hand pumping, and large and small plastic packaging. The input printer of the printed sheet is not a single sheet but is packaged, and is cut one by one after printing. The fineness of printed dots and lines is far less than that of letterpress and offset printing. It can be seen that offset printing cannot be used to print book publications.
