In recent years, with the strong advocacy and publicity of media and equipment manufacturers, inkjet printing technology has begun to emerge in the market, but these inkjet printers have almost been sold to transactional printing companies, and direct mail customers Almost none of these devices have been touched.

In terms of the number of products sold, Procter & Gamble Solutions (IBM and Ricoh's joint venture) are the leading players – they have sold nearly 200 digital presses to the transactional printing market; This was followed by Kodak, whose Versamark VL series of inkjet printers also made great achievements in the transactional printing market.

From the current point of view, continuous inkjet color printers do not seem to have entered the printing and publishing market; in the field of book printing, only some book printers who want to change their business models and reduce product inventory with publishing customers will choose inkjet printing. In the field of newspaper printing, only a few international newspapers use small inkjet printers for digital production in small batches in different countries.

Despite the late start of the inkjet press, we believe it will accelerate its entry into the printing and publishing market this year. Since this can bring a lot of benefits to users, then we need to let them learn how to buy an inkjet printer before making a purchase decision.

Substrate (paper) - Although many equipment manufacturers have indicated that their high-speed sheetfed or web inkjet printers can print on common offset paper with water-based inks and achieve good quality; The object will cause the ink to penetrate into the fibers of the paper and spread continuously, which will lead to many problems in the printing process; currently there are two ways to avoid this, one is to adopt pretreatment (stealth coating) Paper, but the paper is processed on the press.

The HP T300 press uses the former method; the Fuji JetPress 720 press uses an inline pre-coating unit to process the entire paper before printing.

There are many pretreatment methods for paper. The HP Indigo press uses a paper treated with sapphire paint, and the company's Indigo 4200 and 7200 presses are equipped with an online pre-coating unit.

The question is which one is better? The cost of pretreatment of paper is undoubtedly high, and many publishers are only used to providing paper for printing houses, but they are not willing to pay extra processing fees. This may seem like a difficult problem to solve, but some researchers have begun to study the inks that can be used on standard offset substrates, which will lay the foundation for the widespread use of inkjet printers.

Dyes or pigments - inks used in inkjet printers use dyes or pigments as dyes, but dye inks are less expensive. In general, dye inks are more suitable for printing transactional documents with more text, and pigment inks can give them better quality when printing images. Pages printed with dye inks appear to be very flat, but there is the potential for fading, so this ink is more commonly used on low-grade uncoated paper such as newsprint.

It is also only half the speed of a high-speed water-based ink printhead. Currently, continuous inkjet printers using UV-curable inks are mainly used in the label and packaging market.

Printheads - Many people have misunderstandings about the printhead and its life cycle. Some printheads, such as the Kyocera printhead on Océ JetStream printers, can be used for up to 3,000 hours; other printheads, such as HP's new ScalablePrintingTechnology printhead and Kodak STREAM printhead, have a slightly shorter lifespan.
