The folding roller is the most important part on the folding machine. Whether it is a fence folding machine, a blade folding machine, or a hybrid folding machine, the folding roller is an indispensable core. There are a variety of folding rollers on the market, but which one is the best? Which one can provide higher quality services for a wider variety of prints?
For the modern binding industry, the key factor in determining the suitability of the folding roller is the grip. Coated paper, glazing paper, peritoneal paper, and heavy ink on paper all pose challenges to the quality of the fold. If the folding roller does not have enough grip, it is difficult to accurately control the smooth paper and the ultra-light tissue.
Other important factors to consider include the durability of the folding roller, the cost of repair and reloading, and whether it may leave annoying marks on the folding product.
Type of folding roller:
Steel-steel folding rolls are rugged and inexpensive, but are not practical in many situations today. The folding roller will have insufficient grip due to the unevenness of the steel surface, and can not control the coated paper and other various smooth papers.
Indentation is a common problem. Controlling the paper requires force, and the pressure between the folding rollers increases, which tends to leave uneven marks on the paper surface. Therefore, the steel folding roller generally needs a longer set time, the running speed is slower, the folding quality is poor, and the waste is more serious.
Rubber rollers, or polyurethane (PU) folding rollers, have better grip than steel folding rollers, but are less durable. The full rubber roller has a shorter working life. As the folding roller wears, the grip will become weaker and weaker. In order to control the paper, it is necessary to increase the pressure, and the greater the pressure, the faster the machine wears. As a result, it takes a lot of time and expense due to equipment updates and failures.
Hybrid, or a combined folding roller, consists of alternating steel and rubber rollers. The width of each section varies from design to design. Some folding rolls have a surface area of 30% rubber and some are 40% or 50% rubber.
The combined folding roller combines the advantages of a steel roller and a rubber roller, and its grip and durability are better. But at the same time it also combines the shortcomings of both. When the rubber part began to wear, the grip force weakened and the indentation problem came out. The folding and reloading of the folding rollers is costly and time consuming.
