Two-color printed books are now very common, and we have recently used this method for printing. To this end, I discussed related typographic techniques with the typesetting company. At the same time, some information on two-color printing was also checked.
The common two-color printing in the early years is usually "black + red" or "black + blue". To put it simply, two of the CMYK four-color printing are extracted, because the limited recognition of yellow alone is not conducive to reading, so there is no "black + yellow" combination.
However, the colors printed in red and blue alone are quite glaring, which makes people feel less. With the reduction of the cost of spot color printing, this type of processing has also been introduced in two-color printing, and it can be matched with black with the spot color ink that you need, so that the color becomes rich. At present, one of the books we have done is to use the "black + imitation gold" processing method, and the layout and the cover are unified.
In fact, it is not correct to define two-color printing as "black + spot color". As long as the two inks are mixed and printed, it can be called two-color printing. This means we can use two spot colors. This is often used in many experimental image processing. Just like the "two-color ice cream" that everyone has eaten since childhood, there are various possibilities for mixing two different flavors (colors).
Of course, printing costs also need to be considered in printing. The ink cost of spot color printing is more expensive than that of conventional CMYK inks. PANTONE spot color inks are more expensive than the inks mixed by the printer. Therefore, we need to combine the cost and the final effect in design, choose the appropriate way, and achieve the best possible results with limited cost.
