Definition: The graphic information on the plate is higher than the blank area.

The principle of letterpress printing

Toppan Printing

The ink supply unit of the printing press first distributes the ink evenly, and then transfers the ink to the printing plate through the ink roller.

The graphic portion of the relief is much higher than the non-graphic portion, so the ink can only be transferred to the graphic portion of the printing plate, while the non-image portion has no ink.

The paper feeding mechanism transports the paper to the printing member, and under the action of the printing pressure, the ink of the printing plate portion is transferred to the printing substrate, thereby completing the printing of one printing material.

Common letterpress printing methods: movable type printing (including mud type, lead type), flexo version. Only the flexo version is still widely used.

Flexographic printing principle

The ink in the ink fountain is coated with printing ink on the surface of the anilox roll and the anilox roll under the action of the anilox roller in the flexographic printing member.

◆ The ink on the surface of the anilox roll is scraped off by the squeegee so that the ink is only present in the cells of the anilox roll.

◆ The ink in the cell is transferred to the flexographic plate under the pressure of pressure.

◆ Finally, the ink on the plate is transferred to the substrate under the influence of the printing pressure.

Characteristics of letterpress prints

●Characteristics of printed matter: The back of the printed paper has slight marks and embossing, the edges of the lines or dots are neat, and the ink is light in the center, and the edges of the raised printed edges are heavily pressed, so there is a slight impression. Start.

●Printing characteristics: The ink color is thicker (the thickness of the ink layer is about 7 μm). Can be printed on rough substrates. The tone reproduction is general.

●Application range: trademark, packaging and decoration printing, newspaper printing, etc.
