All new users have a lot of problems with computer-to-plate technology: how to get started? Where do you start? Should I choose a thermal printer, or a violet laser? Or use any media device? Is the CTcP device using the ordinary PS version the real way to the future? Is it a wise investment?
There may not be a topic like this that has such widespread uncertainty that no industry like CTcP has spread so many absurd views. Therefore, we want to clarify some of the most important issues in this regard. After all, we have been working on CTcP technology more than 10 years ago.
1. Ordinary PS plates are almost never produced and are no longer there. Is this right?
Sorry, this statement is ridiculous. Because the production of any special plate is determined by a large global market. Even in Europe, where labor costs are high, ordinary plates account for only about 50% of the market. There is no CTP plate that can be as large as a normal PS plate.
2. The CTP version will be cheaper than the regular PS version soon. At that time, CTcP will no longer be economical, right?
This statement has been circulating for 10 years, but it has not become a reality. Perhaps just a large plate producer hopes to have a better market on CTP plates. In fact, even in today's Europe, the ordinary PS version is still 30-50% cheaper than CTP plates, and even more. One fact is that the CTP version has very complex production and quality control procedures, which makes it much more expensive than regular plates. (Editor's note: The CTP version requires a high degree of flatness and purity for the base aluminum. Only in this way can the CTP hub exposure have the motion accuracy and the quality of the base sand. Some domestically produced CTP plates are of poor quality. Most of the reasons are not enough purity of the domestic aluminum plate base, and products that cannot be achieved with flatness are waiting for it.)
3. These old PS plates have not evolved for today's high-resolution imaging technology, which means they can't be compared to CTP plates in terms of quality?
This is a misunderstanding. Because the resolution of the ordinary PS version is very suitable for most of the offset printing (more than 95% in Europe). One fact is: CTcP equipment can achieve very good plate-making quality by using the ordinary PS version. Can you accept the quality of film making? CTcP's plate making quality is far better than film making!
4. The plate made for CTP is definitely easy to operate, isn't it?
This is another paradox. Because CTP plates are more sensitive to scratches, chemical stencils, heat sources, light, and printing workflows. At present, no plate in the market can be as stable, durable and reliable as ordinary plates. (Editor's note: China's printing plant CTP equipment usage is not high, the plate is expensive is one of the reasons; part of the CTP plate printing suitability is not perfect, is the second reason; CTP equipment for the traditional prepress workflow The change caused the workers not to get used to being the third.)
5. The problem is that CTcP is only more economical for printing companies with an annual plate consumption of 50,000 square meters or more. Is that true?
This is not the case at all. The German Independent Printing Association has specifically studied and concluded that CTcP equipment is suitable for all medium or larger printing companies. If the printing plant has two four-color printing presses and the annual plate consumption is 30,000 square meters, most printers can achieve this number, and the return on investment of CTcP equipment will be as high as 70-80%. For print shops or professional plate-making centers with a lot of short prints, CTcP's return on investment will be even higher! If the printing plant already has two or more offset presses, investing in CTcP is far more cost-effective than investing in a new offset press. Customers can not only save the money of the film, but also increase the efficiency of the press to make more money.
6. No matter how good CTcP is, there is almost no CTP based on the ordinary PS version on the market, it is still a non-mainstream technology!
This idea is not mainstream. From the beginning of the development of computer-to-plateetters, there are three mainstream technologies, one is thermal CTP, one is violet laser CTP, and the other is CTcP based on ordinary PS version. In fact, basysPrint has been active in the market with this technology since 1997. Several CTP producers are multinational companies with a wide range of products, and CTcP manufacturer Germany's basysPrint is a professional equipment company for computerized platesetters. Multinational companies can sell products by brand and image, and professional companies must establish brands and images with products. In many parts of the world, especially in countries with relatively low labor costs, the installed capacity of CTcP is always among the best. (Editor's note: The actual installed capacity of CTcP is often more than it seems. This is because some customers hide the CTcP device as a commercial competitive weapon and do not praise it. Usually, we respect the customer's choice, as long as he does not violate it. It is enough to say how bad CTcP is.)
7. Who will buy this equipment? Does the company that has established the CTP prepress system still buy CTcP?
The answer is: Yes. In the past two years, the largest user base for investing in CTcP devices has been those that have used other CTP systems for many years. As a pioneer in CTP equipment, these experienced users are clearly aware of the value that CTcP brings to them. According to incomplete statistics, more than 30% of CTcP customers around the world have used other brands of CTP equipment.
8. But when major suppliers, such as Agfa, Fuji or Kodak, say they don't plan to continue supporting the technology, can CTcP support it for a long time?
Big producers are not always honest. For example, Kodak, they are the biggest competitor of the regular version of CTcP, while saying that CTP plates will soon cut prices, CTcP and ordinary PS versions will be eliminated, while they began to expand the plate factory in Columbus, Georgia and other places in the United States to improve Its ability to produce ordinary PS plates, for example: a new CRAFTSMAN brand of negative plates for CTcP devices.
Smaller producers are offering more and more common PS plates, often offering better customer service, faster logistics, and more flexible payment terms. At the same time, the market price is often determined to be a large number of medium-sized producers, rather than a few large producers.
In the near future, the global media will be mainly produced in China, whether it is an expensive, free CTP version, or a CTP version or a normal PS version. In the middle, China's export of cheap and ordinary PS version will have a long-term advantage, after all, 95% of China's plates are ordinary PS version. China's industrial characteristics: The ordinary PS version has an advantage in terms of quantity, which will have an important impact on the long-term CTP and CTcP equipment worldwide.
9. Environmental protection is a problem, CTP technology has an advantage in this regard!
Quite the opposite. The CTcP device does not require a special sizing solution. Due to the low consumption of chemicals, the low energy consumption of plates and the simple disposal of UV plate chemicals, CTcP is already ahead of the board in terms of environmental protection. The CTP requires an expensive special lithographic solution, which is equivalent to 2 to 5 yuan per square meter of plate material (editor's note: the original is the euro). The CTP plate solution is not environmentally friendly and must be disposed of before it can be discharged.
10. Four facts that require Chinese customers to pay attention, do you know?
● The impact of major customers has been ignored, such as Bertelsmann. They have been advocating CTcP because they demand both high quality and low cost. Bertelsmann is doing a great job! Doesn't this mean the value of the regular version of the technology?
● Multinational companies increase their products through continuous mergers. The merger target is not necessarily the first in the industry, because the premium of the most valuable assets is too high, perhaps the second and third, and the total asset price is cheap. In addition, with the influence of multinational company brands and strong promotion, they can sell the best. The real pillars of German industry are not the giants of multinationals, but a large number of medium-sized professional companies like basysPrint, which have first-class technology research and development, and are highly competitive in a certain field. Superb manufacturing process. In the more than ten years of CTcP equipment development, each generation of products has blended the essence of German and global industrial fields at the time, whether it is Texas Instruments' DMD optical micromirror, NIKON optical lens, Siemens magnetic levitation motion platform, or Osram's UV light source.
● At drupa 2008, basysPrint launched the fifth generation CTcP with laser diode as the light source, which became the biggest highlight of the prepress equipment of this exhibition. The biggest difference between the fifth-generation machine and the fourth-generation machine is the exposure speed. The fifth-generation machine capacity has more than doubled to 26 PPH. The four-open automatic model can reach up to 60PPH. The fourth generation models use UV lamps, the energy will gradually decay during use, and the laser diode will not attenuate. Laser diodes are recognized as the most stable and durable high-energy light source.
