The big waves washed the sand, the survival of the fittest, this world financial crisis has begun to let the domestic printing colleagues suddenly feel the arrival of winter. The industry knowers are beginning to realize that the competition among printing companies has begun to evolve from the investment competition of equipment to the competition to enhance the soft power of enterprises. The domestic printing industry will also move from extensive management to refined management. The successful application of color management technology in printing companies marks an important step forward for the fine management of printing companies. Years of research and teaching in color management of printing have given me the honor to witness the continuous development and promotion of color management technology in China, and even the process of mature application.
The first contact with "Color Management" originated in the early 2000s. The introduction of Chen Yaxiong's series in the "Printing Arts Society Monthly" made me gradually understand this technology and fully realized the importance of this technology to the development of printing. My school opened a professional course in "Printing Color Management" in 2001, becoming the first school in China to offer this course. Soon, the printing color management technology course was promoted in major printing colleges.
The domestic printing industry also attaches great importance to this technology. In 2004, the Shanghai Municipal Labor Bureau developed this technology into a professional technical module for the printing industry, and formulated corresponding professional standards, training syllabuses and assessment standards, and combined professional training with skills research. The form promotes this technology in the industry. I have the privilege of participating in the development of this professional technology module, which organizes the content related to color reproduction during the printing process, including quality evaluation methods and techniques for color reproduction, device linearization of color reproduction systems, digital cameras and sweeps. Color correction of the imager, soft proofing of the screen, digital proofing, etc. The training period of the color management technology module is one month. The learning content includes relevant color theory and color reproduction theory. At the same time, it is more practical exercise of color management technology. Through one training project, master the color reproduction system. Complete the technology of color management. Since the module has been developed and perfected, it has completed more than 30 sessions of training. The students come from many different types of color reproduction industries, such as printing companies, leather processing, art design and advertising, digital photography, etc., which further promotes the domestic color management technology. Application and research.
Since then, with the popularity of digital proofing technology in China, color management application technology has also developed rapidly. Nowadays, color management application technology represented by digital proofing is widely used in books, magazines, business printing, etc. Many digital proofing system developers are constantly improving their technology, making the proofing effect more and more ideal. In addition, the application of color management technology has expanded to a wider range of areas, such as wide-format inkjet output, artwork reproduction, digital printing, and so on. Recently, the Shanghai Art Museum exhibited some limited edition reproductions of Yachang Company. According to my observation, it has indeed reached the point of “fake the real thing.” This shows that the application level of domestic color management technology has been quite high.
Although color management technology has developed so rapidly in China, after visiting many companies, I feel that most companies are unable to apply technology. After analysis, most of the problems focused on the standardized management of printing processes and processes, such as calibration of the display screen, color stability of the proofing equipment, color stability of the printing equipment, and the like. After careful analysis of these problems, it can be found that this is not a problem of the color management technology itself, but a problem stemming from the entire printing production system. Although it is part of the printing color management, it is more the basis of the printing process standardization. The problem is that if this problem cannot be solved, it will affect the further application of color management technology. The problem of standardization of printing technology has become an obstacle to further development of printing color management.
In short, color management technology has been widely used in the domestic printing industry, and is widely used in many fields such as offset printing, flexo printing, gravure printing, digital printing, inkjet printing and photography. For the current lithographic printing with the largest market share, I believe that the development and application of printing color management technology in China needs to strengthen several aspects of work, on the one hand, accelerate the process of printing standardization, such as research and application of G7 or similar methods. The printing technology standardization of domestic printing enterprises has been solved. On the other hand, companies, schools, and governments work together to improve the technical standards of printing practitioners, which is the basis for the progress of the Chinese printing industry.
