The quality of the fountain solution is important to the wetting system. Excessive water quality can affect the normal operation of the wetting system and affect the printing process and print quality. A typical crown reverse osmosis R.O membrane pure water machine reduces the hardness of the wetting system water from 18 degrees to 2 degrees, and the change in water hardness has the following effects on the actual printing process.
1. The ratio of various components in the water tank and the nature of the water change
Improved the ratio of various ingredients in the tank and the nature of the water. When soft water is used, the hardness and chemical impurities are lowered, and the electrical conductivity drops sharply. Moreover, by changing to a dampening solution suitable for soft water (cheaper than for hard water) and lowering the alcohol concentration, the quality of the wetting system is improved while the consumption of raw materials is reduced.
2. Conducive to solving the problem of crystallization on the surface of the roller
The hardness of water depends mainly on the content of calcium and magnesium ions in the water. When the hardness of water is too high, that is, when there is a large amount of free calcium ions and magnesium ions in the water, they will chemically react with the pigment (especially magenta ink), so that the pigment is separated and attached to the ink roller and the rubber roller, and will be over time. The vitreous crystallized surface is formed to affect the transferability of the roller to the ink. This problem is rare in soft water due to the relatively small content of calcium ions and magnesium ions. Since the installation of the water purifier by the company, printing failures such as insufficient ink transfer or non-ink transfer due to the crystallization of the rollers have not occurred, and often occur before installation.
3. Conducive to the control of ink and water balance
Soft water mainly affects the ink balance from three aspects: (1) the reduction of hardness improves the spreadability of dampening solution on the PS plate, thereby reducing the amount of dampening solution. (2) After using soft water, the roller crystallization phenomenon rarely occurs again, and the ink is very smooth during the transfer process. (3) The content of calcium ions and magnesium ions in soft water is small, which basically does not affect the printing suitability of the ink, so it is easier to achieve the ideal ink-and-wash balance with soft water.
4. Improve print quality
Before using soft water, the company basically uses Tianjin Tiens brand ink. When using other brand inks, magenta ink is very easy to paste at the fine level formed by some outlets, which affects printing quality and efficiency. After using soft water, the phenomenon of paste is disappeared, and the soft water wetting system can satisfy the printing conditions of the ink in a wide range.
In China, especially in the north, the hardness of water is generally high, generally above 14 degrees, and the hardness of water required for printing is below 8 degrees. Therefore, from the perspective of process improvement, water softening is very necessary for many printing companies.
