Digital printing is actually a value-added concept. From the perspective of short-run printing, it is already possible to see its potential. With the advancement of technology, anti-counterfeiting printing is only part of the cloud benefits.

Highly anti-counterfeiting and commercial printing have always been separate and unique. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the benefits of secure printing for the commercial digital printing industry and the impact of the latter on the former.

Up to now, the main industrial use of digital printing has been to print labels for short-run drugs, consumer products and other packaging products. As brand owners are increasingly concerned about the losses caused by the emergence of counterfeit goods, but are reluctant to purchase devices such as printable holograms, this will undoubtedly bring valuable business opportunities for digital printing to provide low cost, such as personalization. Brand protection such as anti-counterfeiting design.

In the next few years, the digital printing industry is expected to have several innovations, which reflects the increasing demand in the digital printing industry. For example, Switzerland's CanPet AG invented the first digital printing device Printomat 400 for printing cylindrical prints, making direct printing on beverage cans possible.

In addition to the potential to add unique anti-counterfeiting features, digital printing offers other benefits to brand owners and packagers, including lower costs, less product and inventory, faster market launches, and variable data pricing. Or indicate, have more potential to cope with short-term replacement of products, less loss and shorter supply chain. For brand owners who want to add anti-counterfeiting features to their products, digital printing that is all in one is the most appropriate.

Security printing

Digital printing offers a variety of solutions to combat counterfeit products. Losses caused by counterfeit products have become the most important thing for brand owners to pay attention to. Digital printing allows users to use anti-counterfeiting inks and materials, and can achieve personalized packaging design.

The examples described above are obvious. For example, digital inkjet printing has created a new field for packaging printers, including: printing unique prints, providing services in response to individual customer requirements, product innovation and anti-counterfeiting. In fact, pseudo-products have become an issue that cannot be ignored, and even become an important consideration in the entire production and product distribution supply chain. Innovative and improved technologies are now available for the entire production process. It can be seen that the combination of anti-counterfeiting printing and digital printing will be the development direction that printers will seek in the future.

Cambridge University Examination Board (UCLES)

UCLES is a well-known organization that specializes in the production of test papers and other supporting materials to achieve the above ideas in the UK and international markets.

Cambridge Printing and UCLES collaborated in Cambridge, England in 1999 to implement anti-counterfeiting and cutting-edge digital printing technology applications. At present, they provide test papers and other supporting materials for a quarter of the UK and overseas markets.

Based on the requirements of test papers and auxiliary materials, the anti-counterfeiting and zero-error production process is the most important. If the printed test paper is wrong, or the security measures are insufficient before the official release, the consequences will be difficult to estimate. In addition to meeting the necessary conditions listed above, flexible handling and on-time delivery are also extremely important in the printing process.

All of the above requirements have prompted UCLES to invest in a complete digital production system and work with IBM to create a specially designed solution with the goal of creating a unique printing production model.

Cambridge Printing continues to work with UCLES to enhance the rigorous security of the digital printing process and to develop tailor-made processes, including online tracking and e-procurement.

Digital printing can combat piracy

Recently, the American Film Association (MPAA) banned the delivery of DVDs before the awards ceremony, mainly because the authorities believed that most of the pirated videos came from this.

But the technical solutions, including the successful development of digital printing, can solve the problem.

At the 2004 Academy Awards, Technicolor used a new security technology to create special films for specific film production clients and independent film distributors.

This technique uses a watermark that can be tracked in forensic science to write independent and continuous codes into VHS video or DVD video content. The watermark is hardly visible to the naked eye and assists the copyright holder and the publisher in identifying the attempted pirate of the film. According to a Technicolor spokesperson, the technology has successfully tracked a video posted online, arresting and accusing a member of a pirated group.

To ensure the security of the film during the European Movie Art and Techniques Academy Awards, Technicolor created a Flexplay DVD film that was not available for reading 48 hours after the package was opened.

Flexplay actually provides a short-lived solution for long-term problems, but digital printing offers a longer-term solution.

Secure Media and Action Duplication recently purchased digital printing devices, which are ideal for product encoding and piracy protection. Action Duplication is a company that works on replication products, and Secure Media is a DRM coding provider.

Digital printing equipment has many advantages, including improved quality of digital pictures. At the same time, the copying device can also independently print the serially encoded code on each computer disk for tracking and identification.

The device first prints the image on a special transfer film and then applies a layer of tackifier. After being pressed by a heat generating reel, the image is transferred from the transfer film to the disk. The reel simultaneously releases the dry toner on the transfer film, and adheres the tackifier and the dry toner to the disk by heat. After the transfer film is removed, only the dry toner image and the tackifier are left to press the image onto the disk.

According to manufacturer Auto Tech, the system produces up to about 300,000 disks per day. The above production methods are simple and effective, providing synergistic benefits for disk content providers seeking security and copying companies looking to expand their business opportunities.

HP Indigo

HP has created a portfolio of solutions for digital and secure printing. HP further quoted that the problem of counterfeit products caused the global government and the industry to suffer an annual loss of 334 billion euros.

HP Indigo digital printing equipment offers a range of cost-effective anti-counterfeiting features using HP ElectroInk liquid electronic inks and laser imaging technology.

Indigo is capable of variable data printing, including continuous arrays of codes, names and other unique features such as: - Invisible inks that only appear under UV light;

- Arranged on the page, a combination of letters and numbers, and a series of numbers and letters that are only allowed to be read by a special decoder;

- Barcodes containing a large amount of data, and invisible barcodes that can contain security data in addition to images;

- small text that is barely visible to the naked eye but contains safety information;

- Converts personal appearance, machine-identifiable patterns into digital watermarks for digital images.

Potential function

The media has recently widely reported on identity cards and other related documents, which is not difficult to attract public attention. Because government agencies around the world have found this to be a useful invention, helping to reduce perjury and other related crimes.

Digital printing allows for the printing of variable images, making it possible to personalize prints. Digital plastic card printers use UV-curable inkjet inks to print personalized identification documents. Based on this technology, Spectra has developed prototypes of presses that use on-demand (DoD) piezo inkjet heads and high-temperature UV-curable inks.

In the past few years, various new anti-counterfeiting technologies have emerged in the market, and anti-counterfeiting inks are among the most concerned.

Inkjet device manufacturers produce a variety of inks and toners that enhance anti-counterfeiting. Fluorescent inks, color-changing materials, DNA-decoding inks, temperature-sensitive and photochromic inks, and pressure-sensitive materials can be used in the piezo inkjet printing method. This innovative printing method will undoubtedly have a major impact on product anti-counterfeiting. For example, temperature-sensitive inks that can change with temperature and DNA-decoding inks with unique bio-fingerprints are two powerful examples.

In addition, there are several technologies used in the field of digital printing, but the original purpose is not anti-counterfeiting, and its anti-counterfeiting function has also begun to be discovered.

The best example is the technique of using a piezo inkjet device to adhere metal materials to plastic or paper. Another potential is the integration of conductive inkjet technology with existing printing processes. This technology can be applied to radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, smart cards, anti-counterfeiting devices and more.

AlpVision

Founded in 2001, AlpVision specializes in digital printing technology to cope with the current serious forgery and infringement issues. One of the Cryptoglyph technologies is currently used primarily for branding and document protection (Figure 1).

According to AlpVision, "Because the progress of the anti-counterfeiting printing industry is slow and often relies on traditional and proven methods, the stagnation of the industry has already constituted a major threat." This shows that the market lacks effective and can combat all the fake products available today. The anti-counterfeiting printing scheme, and the combination of anti-counterfeiting printing and digital printing, will be a feasible way out in the future.

Cryptoglyph is the best example of digital anti-counterfeiting, which produces computer-generated certified data in plain ink. That is, Cryptoglyph is not visible to the human eye and can only be identified by a suitable instrument.

This technology is used in a wide range of applications. For example, Cryptoglyph, which cannot be copied, can be used for anti-counterfeiting as the company says. In addition, since Cryptoglyph is not damaged, it can verify the integrity of the data and serve as a strong label, so it can also play a role in tracking.

Users can apply technology to documents and products without special equipment to enhance anti-counterfeiting performance. AlpVision points out that the technical principles they apply are simple and straightforward:

"Cryptoglyph is part of the digital security feature and is sensed by digital signal processing technology. The main goal of the technology development is to read the security features only on a normal device. To detect and verify Cryptoglyph, simply use a simple image capture device such as a scanner or The digital camera can be used."

Dotrix

Dotrix offers a unique solution for the decorative and anti-counterfeiting printing market.
