The coloration of the anodized film is colored by electrodeposition of a metal or metal oxide by a void of the oxide film.

IMD technology: (insert moldling decoration)

According to the younger brother, IMD has two major categories. One type is PC-based and single-chip in the injection mold cavity. The other type is PET, chain-like (much like film or printed instant noodle pockets).

The former finished product was MERGE PC film, the latter only took the ink on the PET chain, but the PET material (chain, also known as FOIL) was not imported into the part by MERGE.

The former is thicker than PC, and can only be screen printed, so the effect is rough. For example, MOTOROLA's V66 front shield shape is very delicate.

The latter is thin because of PET, it can be printed with offset, very delicate, especially electroplated and transparent, and the fine texture of metal and surface is very good, such as MOTOROLA's V60 front plating and black texture effect.

Its IMD is actually the abbreviation of IN MOLDING DECORATION.

The control panel on the lower part of the pine is a typical IMD. A screen printed PET film is placed in an injection mold for injection molding. The materials are generally PC, transparent ABS, PMMA. The film and plastic are combined into one after injection.

Generally speaking, there are two background reasons for using IMD.

1, some effects with injection molding are difficult to simulate, such as walnut dashboard.

2, it is difficult to integrate several effects on small parts. For example, the front triangle of MOTO V60 concentrates on electroplating, transparency, and screen printing, but it requires exquisiteness itself. Imagine using real electroplating, and the transparent sheets are separately injection molded and then spliced. difficult.

Another method is to make the outer surface of the part smooth when the surface is TEXTURE in the mold stage, and the inner surface is rough, but there is a requirement for the mold because the draft angle of the rough texture is large.

Related concept description

1, IMD

The full name of IMD in English is: In-Mould-Decoration. Schematic diagram shown in Figure 1, the ink first attached to the Inlay, by injection plastic material between the Inlay and the injection material, because there is Inlay (usually PC film, thickness 0.125 ~ 0.075mm) as a protective layer, there is good wear resistance Sex. The Motorola V66 uses this technology.

2, IN MOULD INK TRANSFER

IN MOULD INK TRANSFER is also known as in-mold transfer. The schematic diagram is shown in Fig. 2. The structure of Foil is shown in Fig. 3. Compared with IMD, this method is relatively thin due to the protective layer outside the ink, and the visual effect is better. The Motorola V60 uses this technology.

IMD (In-Mould-Decoration) refers to the injection molding of a silk-screened FILM into a plastic mold. This FLIM can be roughly divided into three layers, the substrate (usually PET) INK (ink) wear-resistant material (mostly a special kind of glue). When the injection molding is completed, the film and the plastic are integrated, and the wear-resistant material is at the outermost. This kind of process is often used in mobile phone display screens. Most of the plastic materials are PC, PMMA, PBT, etc. It mainly has the functions of abrasion resistance and scratch resistance. There is also a technique called IML (IN-MOUld-Lable), which is roughly the same as IMD, except that the flim is pulled out like a stamped strip after injection, but the printing pattern is transferred to the plastic part, also known as in-mold transfer.

Usually, the price of the injection mold is higher than the price of the metal mold. This is easier to understand. The structure of the plastic mold is much more complicated than the hardware mold.

However, the material cost of aluminum alloy is higher than that of ordinary plastic, and the post-processing technology (surface blasting, oxidation, drawing, etc.) is higher than the cost of plastic parts, so the price of the product is higher.

There are many surface treatment processes for plastic parts, and the following are commonly used:

Surface printing: curved printing, screen printing, osmotic printing, etching printing, anodized aluminum stamping, laser printing

Surface coloring: spraying, dyeing

Metallic gloss: vacuum evaporation, sputtering, electroplating, metal spraying, anodized aluminum stamping

As for the renderings of various processes, and limitations, I can't find so much information at hand. You can refer to professional books.
