Common solvents in gravure inks can be divided into the following categories:

Alcohol solvent: ethanol (alcohol), isopropanol, n-butanol

Ester solvent: ethyl acetate, butyl acetate

Benzene solvent: toluene, xylene

Ketone solvents: cyclohexanone, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone (butanone)

Since gravure inks are mainly volatile drying, most of them use highly volatile solvents.

In the ink solvent, a solvent that can dissolve the ink alone is called a true solvent, a solvent that cannot dissolve the ink is called a pseudo-solvent, and a solvent that cannot dissolve the ink alone and is mixed with another solvent to dissolve the ink is called a co-solvent.

Among the solvents listed above, ethyl acetate, methyl ethyl ketone, acetone, toluene, and ethanol are all fast drying solvents.

Such as butyl acetate, xylene, isopropanol, cyclohexanone are slow-drying solvents.

In the benzene-soluble surface printing ink, benzene and other solvents cannot be used alone. The benzene solvent and the alcohol solvent should be pre-mixed before the ink is diluted. The ratio can be adjusted according to the information provided by the ink supplier.

In the composite printing ink (chlorinated polypropylene type), benzene, ester, and ketone solvents are all true solvents. Do not dilute with alcohol solvents. In order to reduce the cost, benzene solvents can be used, but depending on the drying speed, the ratio can be adjusted according to the information provided by the ink supplier.

In the PVC shrink film ink, only the ester solvent is a true solvent, and the benzene solvent is a co-solvent. Do not add a benzene solvent alone, but use an ester solvent and a benzene solvent. The proportion can be adjusted with reference to the information provided by the ink supplier.
