Before the laser phototype output, the typesetting books are generally required to be folded, that is, according to the printing machine used, the book PS file is spelled into a split version or a four-open version and then laser photo-alignment, so that the output of a single page can be reduced. At the same time, the manual imposition process is carried out. At the same time, the computer imposition also greatly improves the imposition precision, and overcomes the defects of the traditional artificial imposition inaccurate alignment, the heavy work of the revision, and the untidy layout. Fang Zhengwen's folding hand software can realize the folding hand output of files in PS, EPS, TIFF and other formats. It is a very good folding hand software. Let's talk about the function of folding and folding hands with specific examples of folding books.

1. Folding process

The folding operation is actually the process of splicing the source files of the PS format into a large version and outputting the large version of the PS file. In the actual operation, the main steps are: creating a new folding hand template, setting parameters; creating a new folding hand job, setting printing and binding requirements; selecting the established folding hand template and selecting the folding source file in the folding operation; outputting the large version PS file. At this point, complete the folding operation. Let's talk specifically about the parameter settings for each step.

2. New folding hand template

Take the A4 journal, four-open printing as an example. Open the folding software of Fangzhengwen, click the “New” button or click the “File” menu to select the “New” option. In the pop-up dialog box, click the “New Template” button to open the dialog shown in Figure 1. The box, "printing method" is generally set to "double-sided printing", if the self-reverse version, it should be set to "single-sided printing", "page orientation" is generally set to "longitudinal", in the "layout" of the small page In the number of rows and the number of columns in the small page, enter the number of rows and columns of the large version of the small page, and the small page refers to the layout of the book pages, generally 16K, A4 and so on. The "Small Page Finished Size" drop-down box allows you to select the size of the finished small page, that is, the size of the book after cutting. You can also directly enter the finished size of the small page in the "Width" and "Height" boxes below it. In the "Large Size" drop-down box, you can select the common large size. The large size includes the large version of the small page [including the blank of the fold (or crop) mark around it] and the margins. You can also enter values in the "Height" and "Width" boxes under "Large Size" according to the actual situation. The size setting of the large version has the minimum requirements. How to accurately set the large size is explained in detail in the later settings. "Margins" are blank margins other than the large version and the margins of various markers placed around it, similar to the margins in Word layout. Click the "OK" button to enter the front side of the folding hand and the symmetrical side of the folding hand. As shown in Figure 2, in fact, as long as the frontal parameters of the folding hand are set, the back parameters are automatically set. The specific settings are as follows. Figure 1 Template Settings Dialog

As shown in Figure 2, click the logical page number in the front of the folder to set the logical page number and page orientation according to the folding order (you can simulate the folding effect with blank paper first), the page number can be directly input, and the page direction can be changed by clicking the page direction button. . The template shown in Figure 2 is the binding method of the journal header on the top and the bottom alignment. We see in the front of the fold, there are three numbers on the 8th and 1st page, the first number refers to the left margin of page 8 (this blank is not included in the large margin, the unit In mm), this is reserved for the position where the various marks are placed. The second number is the space between the 8th page and the 1st page. It is also the position where the folding mark is placed and the fold is left. The third digital system requires the lowest. It is 4. In this way, we can calculate the width of the large version size mentioned above. The width of page 8 and page 1 are both 210, plus 3 on the left, 4 on the middle and 4 on the right, and left and right margins ( Each 10), so the total width of the large version should be 451. Similarly, the height of the large version can be calculated to be 627, and the lowest numerical system requires a minimum of 4. Leave 6 in the middle, after the actual folding (except 2) becomes 3, which is the cutting size left for the finished product. At this point, we can open the "Template Settings" dialog box by clicking "Template Settings" in the "Settings" menu, and accurately set the large version size to match the rightmost and lowest number of 4.

Click the "Marking Method" button in the toolbar, that is, the "M" button, set the folding mark and the cross-fold line, as shown in Figure 3. The four corners of the large version are cut marks. For books and magazines, you don't need to set them. Just set the fold marks in the middle of the small pages. Click the mouse on the middle fold mark to change the mark from green to yellow. Then right click on the mark and select the fold mark on the pop-up menu. In the pop-up fold mark setting dialog box, mark the parameter. Enter “3”, “3” and “0.2” in the “Height”, “Width” and “Line” boxes. If the setting value is larger, the reserved marking distance should be increased. When the printing paper is fixed, generally It is not advisable to increase the distance to mark. In the "Small Pages" option, you only need to set a value according to the mark position. You can set this data to "1", which is needed when cutting the finished product. If it is set to "0", then When cutting the finished product, the marking marks may be left at the finished cut, which affects the appearance of the finished product. Click the "OK" button to complete the folding mark settings. Set other fold marks in this way.

Click the "Mark" menu, select the "Comment" option, in the "Comment Information" dialog box that pops up, click the box in front of the "Add Comment Strip" option to remove "√". By default, this item will display a line of comment information on the edge of the large version, telling you whether it is the first version, whether it is genuine or reverse, and there are also black color blocks, which can be used as a means to check the printing effect. Determine whether to retain this selection based on actual printing needs.

Click the "Mark" menu, select the "Cross-polyline" option, in the "Cross-polyline setting dialog box" that pops up, click the box containing the "cross-fold line" to make it appear "√", and With the fold line on the back, set the Polyline Length to 6 and the Polyline Thickness to 0.2. Setting the cross-fold line can be used as a basis for folding when folding, or as a means of checking the folding effect.

After the above settings, the template settings of the regular books are basically completed, the template is saved, and the template is closed.

3. New folding work

After the template is built, it is time to perform the folding operation, that is, the imposition work. Click the "New" button in the folding software of Founder Wenhe or click the "File" menu to select the "New" option. In the pop-up dialog box, click the "Folding Job" button to open the figure shown in Figure 4. Dialog. If it is an A4 journal, four-sided double-sided printing, then the total number of folding jobs in the "Job Settings" dialog box shown in Figure 4 should be a multiple of 8. If the total number of pages for the folding job is set incorrectly, the imposition cannot continue in the subsequent operations. Similarly, if it is an A4 journal, double-sided printing, the total number of pages of folding work should be a multiple of 16. Then click the "Paste Settings" button, in the "Paste Settings" dialog box that pops up, click the box in front of the label to make it appear "√", then click the box in front of the spine ID to make It also appears "√", the length of the postmark is generally set to 5, if the page number of the book is particularly large, set the length of the post according to the number of posts and the height of the book. After such setting, there are black blocks and section numbers on each ridge when the placard is attached. According to the height position of the black block, it is convenient to check whether there is any error, so as to timely correct errors such as wrong posts and reposts. Then click the "OK" button to complete the postmark settings, then click the "OK" button to enter the "Select Template" dialog box, click the "Select" button, select the template file saved above, and then click "OK" Button to open the template file.

Figure 4 Job Settings Dialog

Click the "Settings" menu, select the "Select Source File" option, open the "Source File List" dialog box, click the "Add" button to find the book file in PS format. Since the PS file only knows the size of the page after the folding scan, the size of the PS file page does not necessarily match the size of the small page you set. Of course, the size of the two pages is the best. Therefore, we can first scan the page size of the PS file. Add the PS file to the "Source File List" dialog box, click the added PS file, and then click the "Scan File" button. After scanning, the "Small Page Width" and "Small Page Height" in the dialog box can be displayed. Out the "width" and "height" of the PS file, see if the width and height are consistent with the "width" and "height" in the size of the small page finished product. When it is inconsistent, write down the "width" and "height" of the PS file, of course. There are very small errors, which are considered to be consistent with very small errors. Then click the "Delete" button to delete the added PS file. The following points are consistent and inconsistent.

When they are consistent: In the "Source File List" dialog box, click the "Add" button to find the book file in PS format and open it. In the "Add Source File" dialog box that pops up, select the page number range, if all the page numbers are exactly If you want to divide the total number of pages, you don't need to select the page range. If not, you need to select the page range. Click the circle in front of "Partial Page Number", then enter the page number range in the "From" and "To" boxes of the "Partial Page Number", such as "1" and "160", click the "OK" button, and then click " Close the button. Then click the "File" menu, select the "Input PS" option, in the pop-up "Output PS" dialog box, click the "Browse" button, select the save and name of the output large version of the PS file, complete the large version of the PS file Output, then you can use the page cropping tool software in the text to preview the patched large version of the PS file to check for errors. If it is correct, the output center can be delivered for laser photo-distribution output.

Inconsistent: In the "Source File List" dialog box, add the PS file and select the page number range as above. The difference from the above is that you want to click the box in front of "Book version plus border space" to make it appear " √", enter the value in the "left" box below, this value should be the width of the small page finished product minus the width of the small page of the scanned PS file and then divide by 2, considering the left and right side space symmetry, such as the need for symmetrical edges Empty, can be controlled by this value. In the same way, enter the small page finished product size height in the "lower" box minus the scanned page file height and then divide by the value of 2, and then the large version of the PS file output operation is the same as above, and will not be described again.

When spelling a self-reverse version, you need to set up single-sided printing. Other parameters are the same as double-sided printing. The logical page number cannot be repeated in the template, but we can control the actual page number to match the logical page number by selecting the page range when folding the job, that is, logic. Pages 1 and 3 are the actual same page, and pages 2 and 4 of the logic are the actual same page.

4 Conclusion

The above example of the book imposition describes the Fangzhengwen folding hand software imposition work, of course, the folding hand software has many other functions, such as the printing volume can be spelled double version, but also can be spelled saddle stitching, two version, also According to the size of the laser imagesetter, the four-open output can be performed on the open version. At the same time, the page cutting tool software in the text can preview the PS version and check the relevant dimensions, so that the Wenhe software complements each other and becomes a book imposition. The weapon.
