A news that is not optimistic about the press is from the paper industry. According to Cao Zhenlei, secretary-general of the China Paper Association and deputy general manager of China Light Industry Group, China's newsprint production and consumption are currently declining, which has sounded the alarm for the newspaper industry.
The 16th International Conference on Wood, Fiber and Pulp Chemistry, hosted by the China Paper Association, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Tianjin Papermaking Society and China Pulp and Paper Research Institute, was held in Tianjin from June 8th to 10th. Cao Zhenlei, who attended the meeting, said at the meeting that the level of technical equipment in China's newsprint manufacturing ranks first in the world. There are five of the world's top 10 newsprint machines in China, but the newsprint market at home and abroad is declining.
China is currently the largest newspaper market in the world with the largest number of newspapers. Previously, the Printing Committee of the China Press Association calculated the statistics of some newspaper printing houses. In 2008, the total printing volume of newspapers in China showed the first negative growth since 1993, and continued to fall in 2009.
According to reports, in 2010, the national newsprint production volume was 4.3 million tons, which was 10.42% lower than the 4.8 million tons in 2009, and the consumption was 4.23 million tons, which was 8.24% lower than the 4.61 million tons in 2009. The production volume of newsprint in 2010 was lower than that of 2007.
Cao Zhenlei said that before 2008, the output of China's newsprint has been on the rise, while the foreign newsprint market has seen a decline of more than 10 years. He believes that this is related to the impact of electronic media on traditional paper media.
