Zheng Xiong, Mao Feng brother:

Many years ago, the younger brother and Professor Hong Kong University of Technology Professor Feng Jiying visited Taiwan, met with the heads of many colleges and universities in Taiwan, and arranged to visit various public and private universities. I hope to use the experience of Taiwan’s higher education institutions to start printing education. The university applies for a degree program in printing. After returning to Hong Kong, Professor Feng spent a lot of valuable time writing a report and a proposal to the University of Science and Technology Administration, but the application was not accepted by PolyU. In order to appease the printing industry, PolyU only launched a "Printing Management Diploma" course, which was suspended several years ago due to insufficient admission. The ultimate reason was that the university authorities did not fully consider and take care of the needs of the printing industry.

The younger brother contacted the Polytechnic University on the basis of various factors. First, PolyU had a close relationship with Hong Kong's industry and commerce. It was the only university in Hong Kong that established the Department of Textiles and Clothing, so it was determined that the university would also support the printing industry; Erlita is the only university to set up a design school. Graphic design is closely related to printing. At the same time, it is logical to start a printing course. The third is the long-term friendship between Professor Feng and his younger brother. He is willing to provide private advice and assistance in starting the course, although ultimately The printing industry in Hong Kong should still thank Professor Feng for his contribution.

The younger brother has also collected a lot of university printing courses from all over the world. The most systematic and popular social resources in the year were the American RIT Rochester Institute of Technology and the London College of Printing in London. The United States and the United States are traditional printing. The big country has invested a lot of resources in printing higher education and trained a lot of printing technology, management and scientific research talents. Another interesting phenomenon is that some non-key printing training colleges and universities, in order to save resources and increase enrollment, will merge printing with other courses, such as mass communication or design synthesis into a college, allowing students to take part in printing and news. Or design credit courses. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has a long history of design and mechanical engineering, and should be the most suitable university for printing degree programs.

In the same year, he visited the Department of Printing and Communication of Taiwan Normal University. In the memory, the department is a teacher and workshop instructor who trains printing and television production. Therefore, the department is also a comprehensive course department. I still remember the printing of the school. In the experimental workshop, I saw some three-dimensional paper products in the workshop, which made the younger brother deeply impressed. In fact, children's book production has become popular in three years, and it has become more adult. Some books related to science and medicine have been added to stereoscopic image production, which has made the prints gain considerable value, while Singapore, Hong Kong and China have already Get a lot of these book orders.

Nowadays, such three-dimensional books or paper products are often designed by professional designers who are hired by publishers or buyers. This kind of designer who mixes painting, design and engineering is called Paper Engineer "paper engineer". Hong Kong does not seem to have such training in this area. It is also very lacking in this area. It is unclear whether Taiwan and the mainland also have such professional training. I believe that the two will certainly provide more information on this aspect of the two places.

In the past, the younger brother has also printed a number of three-dimensional paper products for foreign customers. The client commissioned a foreign designer to design and produce a computer file. In production and production, he relied entirely on the self-made first-run office provided by the designer for mass production. Do not admire the thoughtful and thoughtful design of foreign designers, there is no big trouble in printing and production and cause a lot of wear and tear. The post-processing part of such paper products requires a large number of manual assembly. Because of the individual design features, it is difficult to use automated machinery production, so the cheap labor in Asia is very suitable for such paper production, and it is also a high value-added product.

It is unfortunate that some local buyers, especially some advertisers, have also tried to print non-planarized promotional materials in order to increase the interest of publicity materials. The staff responsible for the design have not received training in three-dimensional paper design and production. The printed files designed can be said to be non-defective, which brings a lot of troubles and challenges to the printing industry. The late Mr. Lu Yiping, the founder of Bailemen Printing in Hong Kong, was interviewed by the Graphical Monthly magazine during his lifetime. He talked about letting the company mainly serve major advertising companies, often dealing with many unusual printing products in a limited time. And many finished products have never appeared before, he has to be made with personal experience and imagination to meet customer needs. At that time, Paramount printing could not be done, and it became famous in the advertising industry. It eventually became the first commercial printing factory in Hong Kong to successfully raise funds on the stock exchange.

Over the years, Hong Kong Arts and Crafts has embraced an ideal, not only to improve the quality of printing practitioners, but also to promote the printing-related industries including pre-press, post-press, materials and equipment supply, publishing, advertising, design and multimedia practitioners. Communication and common improvement, so I learned to replace the narrow "printing" with "printing art". Many years later, among the five members of the Standing Committee of the Arts and Crafts, the chairman was Ms. Tan Li, from the advertising company, the first vice chairman was Mr. Yang Weiwen, who is engaged in prepress business, and the second vice chairman was Mr. Ma Guihong from the Chinese University Press. Mr. Chen Peiji and Ms. Qun Qunli, the printing industry, acted as volunteer secretaries and treasurers respectively. The Graphic Arts Society has become a microcosm of a printing-related society, expressing their desire to cooperate with each other and coordinating the contradictions between their respective industries on an equal basis. One of the candid achievements is the "Hong Kong Print Award". In 1989, the Hong Kong Graphic Arts Association and the Hong Kong Publishing Association co-organized, marking a new milestone in the equal cooperation between the printing and publishing industries. It is not simply a print buyer. As well as the identity of the seller, this award is also used to recognize excellent publishing ideas and content, high-level print production and innovative design with beautiful communication.

For many years, well-known graphic designers have often complained that the printing company refused to implement the designer's design ideas for various technical reasons, so that many boutiques never came out. The printing production company also complained that the designers are often difficult to do. They do not fully understand the characteristics of the materials produced, understand the difficulties in production and the time required, and do not consider the feasibility and extra cost of the production department in thinking and design, so that the products are subject to the production. Unnecessary loss.

With the younger brother's ignorance, lasting integration, and strengthening mutual understanding, it will help implement the new design ideas as actual products. In the course of training graphic design students, the education authorities should also increase the understanding of the printing production technology process and the characteristics of printing materials, so that these future graphic designers can truly step on the platform of design ideas and step on the platform. Production on the production platform. If you can maintain balance, you will not fall, and innovative design ideas will be successfully printed. If you can join the three-dimensional paper design and production course, you can also improve the design level and increase business opportunities in this area.
