Dot map in CorelDraw

Using CorelDraw to convert a bitmap into a vector image can not only realize the function of graphics conversion, but also specify the effect to obtain a special vector image. Now let's take a look at the dot map converted to vector graphics in CorelDraw. Method of operation.

Conversion method

Prepare a bitmap and import it into CorelDraw

Select the image and click the right mouse button. You can see the “Draw Bitmap” option in the menu. When selected, CorelDraw will jump to CorelTRACE to edit the bitmap.

CorelTRACE is a professional dot matrix conversion vector tool for CorelDraw. The interface of the entire software is very simple. The left side is the selection of tools for conversion, such as contour, advanced contour, centerline, centerline contour, sketch, mosaic, 3D mosaic. There are eight ways to convert woodcuts. After selecting one of the methods, the corresponding tool setting options appear on the menu bar. After applying the settings, you can see the final vector effect in the "Drawing Results" window.

Below we detail these eight conversion methods.

First, according to the contour

This is the most straightforward way to convert. Just set the accuracy of the conversion and click the draw button.

The smaller the value of the accuracy, the smoother the contour of the converted image, and the larger the value of the accuracy, the smaller the distortion of the converted image, ie, the smallest change. Let's set the accuracy to 20 and see the effect of this cartoon image.

Some of the sharp outlines in the original image were rounded, and the accuracy was set to 100. The resulting depiction found that the sharp outline in the original image still exists.

Second, according to the advanced contour

Using the advanced contour conversion method, there are many parameters that can be set. The program also provides various pre-made modes, and you can get the corresponding parameters by selecting them.

If we choose the "Surface" effect, click on the icon to see its vector effect in the rendering results panel.

Specific custom design parameters for the By Advanced Profile tool include: noise filter, graphic complexity, color values, node reduction, node type, and minimum object size.

The noise filter includes: no, low and high.

The complexity of the converted graphics can be set or adjusted with a lever.

The maximum number of colors is adjusted between 2-256, and the smaller the color value, the smaller the file size.

The node reduction is the number of nodes of the generated vector graphics, which can be selected within 1-100. The more nodes are set, the fewer nodes are generated on the vector graphics.

In order to explain its characteristics in more detail, we set the number of reduced nodes to 10 and 80 respectively, and then look at the nodes displayed on the resulting vector diagram.

There are two types of node types, spiking and smoothing. Nodes generated using spikes have more nodes than smoothing.

The minimum object size can be adjusted between 1-500.

Third, press the center line

This conversion method requires the original picture to be black and white to be used. As with the advanced contour, several modes are prefabricated according to the center line, and the application can be applied.

The parameters that can be set according to the center line are only “reduced nodes” and “repetitions”. The vector graphics effect drawn by the center only retains the edge lines of the original image, like a pen-drawn picture.

Fourth, press the centerline contour

The parameter setting according to the centerline contour is more precise than pressing the centerline. It also requires that the original image must be black and white. The converted vector image is not like the edge line of the graph as the centerline. The conversion to get the vector image is not much different from the original image.

Fifth, sketch

Sketching We all know the effect of pencil painting. There are more options to adjust the sketch. Line spacing: It is the effect of controlling the pencil line. The smaller the value, the denser the stroke of the pencil. The larger the value, the thinner the stroke of the pencil.

The smaller the value of the line spacing is, the clearer the vector image is. The larger the line spacing value is, the fewer the vector graphics lines are, and the more the graphics appear to be scattered. We adjust the line spacing value to 1 and 30 to see the contrast of the resulting image.

Layers are horizontal, vertical, and diagonally drawn angles, each of which is a different layer in the resulting vector. The layer and layer angles are closely related, and the layer angle is the direction angle of the different layers.

The threshold is also to adjust the density of the image lines. The smaller the threshold, the more the lines are evacuated. The larger the threshold, the tighter the lines.

Sixth, mosaic

As the name implies, the vector image obtained by the mosaic is a mosaic effect. The shape of the mosaic, horizontal tiling and vertical tiling can be selected in the parameter settings of the mosaic.

The smaller the value of the tile, the more blurred the effect of the vector image, the larger the value, the better the effect of the vector image is.

Seventh, 3D mosaic

It is similar to the mosaic, but the 3D mosaic is very strong.

Eighth, woodcut

Woodcut effect setting options include: reduced nodes, thresholds, angles, widths, and woodcut properties. Most of the options have been introduced earlier. The woodcut properties are swatch selection, join engraving, tapered end point, inversion and symmetry, etc. The vector graphics used in woodcuts have a variety of effects.
