With the improvement of living standards, people have put forward higher requirements for food packaging. Ink is used as a printing material, and when it is applied to food packaging, it must adhere to the principle of no transfer. Food packaging should not use conventional inks. The printer must ensure that all the solvents in the ink after printing are volatilized. The inks require thorough curing and meet the corresponding standards in the application industry.

In current food plastic packaging printing, benzene-soluble chlorinated polypropylene inks are the most widely used. The inks are manufactured and used in a variety of technologies, mainly used in the printing of BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) materials, and in gravure. Although the ink has good printing suitability, good post-press processing performance and fast drying, the residual solvent value of the printed matter is high due to (1) the relative toxicity of toluene is large; (2) the thermal stability of the chlorinated polypropylene is poor. During the production and storage process, chlorine is easily released to form hydrogen chloride, which makes the ink more acidic and produces heavy weight corrosion on the printing plate roll. (3) The benzene-soluble ink can destroy the ozone layer and will be used during use. Harmful to the health and safety of workers, and residues left in the packaged product, under certain conditions, will cause a certain degree of pollution to the food in the package. This type of ink is phasing out, and regulations for prohibiting or controlling the use of this ink have been developed in Europe and some developed countries.

It is precisely because of the various problems of benzene-soluble inks, environmentally friendly inks came into being. The use of environmentally-friendly inks does not pollute the environment, does not cause physical harm to the operator, and does not cause damage to the contents. Anmei Mall shares with you the environmentally friendly inks that have been available in the market:

1. Water-based ink

Water-based ink is the ink used in most flexographic packaging printing at home and abroad. It is mainly processed by composite grinding of water-soluble resin, organic pigment, solvent and related additives. Water-soluble resin is a binder of water-based ink. Water-soluble acrylic resin is often used as a binder in China. It has significant advantages in heat resistance, weather resistance, chemical resistance, pollution resistance and glossiness, regardless of direct dispersion. Dissolved or synthetic polymer emulsions, all exhibit excellent performance. Water-based inks do not contain volatile organic solvents, which not only reduce the toxicity of printed residues, but also prevent fires caused by static electricity and flammable solvents. Water-based inks are not only a new type of "green" printing ink, but also the best alternative to benzene-soluble inks.

2. Ultraviolet (UV) curing ink

UV-curable ink refers to a cross-linking reaction of a binder in an ink under a certain wavelength of ultraviolet light, and a solid-state ink is converted from a liquid to a solid. Before the binder is dissolved, the macro-polymer prepolymer is firmly An ink film is formed. UV-curable inks are primarily used for flexible printing of flexible substrates, which consist of prepolymers, reactive diluents, pigments, additives, photoinitiators/compositions. The choice of reactive diluent has an effect on the migration reaction in the ink formulation; the performance of the additive on the ink (printability, ink migration, substrate wetting, friction coefficient, abrasion resistance, pigment dispersion and stability) And the odor of the printed matter is adjusted; the spectral range of the absorption of the ultraviolet light by the pigment is required to be as small as possible, and the ideal pigment should have good dispersibility, good leveling property, strong coloring power, small ultraviolet absorption under light irradiation, and polymerization. The reaction is not harmful. When printing with UV-curable ink, attention should be paid to the inhibition of polymerization reaction, surface tension and wetting, the dependence of viscosity and humidity of ink, and the expansion of printing plate. Because of the poor adhesion of ink to plastic, it is necessary to print on the ink. The plastic is flame treated or corona discharged to improve the adhesion of the plastic surface.

3. Electron beam curing ink (EB ink)

Electron beam curing ink refers to an ink that can be quickly converted from a liquid to a solid under the irradiation of a high-energy electron beam, also known as an EB ink. The electron beam energy is high, and it has strong penetrating power for solid components such as pigments and fillers, and there is no possibility that the ink is hindered from being absorbed by the pigment or the filler, and the drying inside the ink film is not affected.
