With the innovation of packaging technology, edible packaging materials have been listed, and have been well received by the industry. This article takes stock of the 10 edible materials available in the world:

1. Soy protein edible packaging film: This packaging film was successfully developed by a research team headed by Frederick F. Shi. It has many advantages, such as maintaining moisture and preventing oxygen from entering, as well as ensuring the original taste of fatty foods. It has high nutritional value after consumption and is easy to handle, fully complying with environmental requirements. The trial effect is very good.

2. Chitosan edible packaging film: This packaging film was successfully produced by the American Agricultural Research Institute, mainly used for the packaging of fruit and vegetable foods. It uses shellfish extract chitosan as the main raw material. Combining chitosan with lauric acid produces a uniform edible film with a thickness of only 0.2-0.3 mm. The peeled fruit or fruit pieces (blocks) are packaged with the packaging film, which has a good preservation effect.

3. Protein, fatty acid, starch composite edible packaging film: This packaging film was successfully developed by the University of Wisconsin. Its main feature is that different ratios of protein, fatty acid and starch can be combined to produce edible films of different physical properties according to different needs. The larger the fatty acid molecule of the packaging film, the better the resistance to moisture loss.

4. Water-resistant protein film: This packaging film was successfully developed by the Japan Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Food Research Institute. It is suitable for covering expanded starch foods. The film is a new packaging material that can replace styrofoam and its strength is comparable to that of synthetic film for general food packaging. Because its main component is corn, it has biodegradability and does not pollute the environment.

5. Edible wrapper made from bean dregs: This edible wrapper was recently introduced by a Japanese company. It is best suited for fast food noodles. Its characteristic is that it dissolves with hot water and does not need to tear the package, which is not only convenient, but also has certain nutritional value.

6. Edible packaging containers: These containers were developed and produced by Queensland Potato Chip Containers, Australia. It is mainly used for the packaging of potato chips. In the process of trial production, imitating the processing technology of potato chips, adding flavors of smoky, sauce, chicken, and different flavors such as sour, salty and spicy to meet the tastes of different consumers. The container was quickly used in Australia's 45,000 potato chip outlets, and it has also attracted worldwide attention. Now its production equipment has entered the US market.

7. Corn protein packaging film (paper, coating): This packaging film was successfully developed by China. It is mainly used for the packaging and coating of fast food boxes and other oily foods. The film is a packaging material synthesized from paper and corn protein. It cannot be wetted by grease, and it will not change its properties if it is put into a frying pan.

8. Insect film or protein coated wrapping paper (container): This packaging was also successfully developed by China. It is non-toxic and easy to handle and can withstand certain temperatures and moisture. The wrapper or container is a film obtained by dissolving shellac or protein, obtained by a special process, or a wrapper or packaging container which is coated on a cardboard or paper container by a coating process.

9. Corn starch alginate or chitosan composite packaging film (paper): These two packaging films (paper) are successfully developed by China. They can be used for preserved fruits, cakes, instant noodle soups and other convenient foods. Inner packaging. Its main features are high tensile strength and elongation, and good water resistance. The two packaging films (paper) were soaked in boiling water for more than 10 minutes, and the performance was hardly changed. These two kinds of packaging film (paper) are made of corn starch as the base material, respectively, adding sodium alginate or chitosan, and then adding a certain amount of plasticizer, tackifier, preservative, and processed by special process.

10. Bio-adhesive coated wrapping paper: This kind of wrapping paper was also successfully developed by China. Packaging containers made from such coated wrappers can be used in fast food or food packaging that requires exposure to certain temperatures and moisture. It is a water-resistant and oil-resistant coated wrapper obtained by coating (or spraying) the prepared rubber with a special amount of starch glue and bone glue, with a certain amount of additives.
