The computer-to-plate technology CTP has brought a lot of questions related to workflow. Although the elimination of the film can greatly improve the overall dot quality, thus achieving a more ideal printing effect, but it has created a responsibility.
Especially in the Hong Kong market: the output center is responsible for the output of the film, and the printing house is responsible for printing and printing. Although CTP can bring more accurate and ideal print quality to the printing house, the related production workflow has made many small and medium-sized printing plants deterred from this new technology. This is not difficult to understand, because Hong Kong's output center is closely linked to designers, advertising agencies and printing houses. They have mastered all the technologies exported by the film, which are lacking in general printing plants. Based on the fact that the output film is similar to the output plate, it is logical that the CTP workflow is a very easy step for the output center.
If you separate the CTP workflow from the computer-to-plateetter, there must be some digital solution to reliably prepare the data from the workflow (ie, the output center - to the exposure component - the printer), the reliability must be Film works in the same way. The emergence of screenedbitmap-1-bittTIFF, which can be used to transfer and store data, can provide the same reliability as film output, can not change the file content, and can easily store CDRom, tape or hard disk. With the appropriate workflow tools, users can preview overlays, overprints, and even the dot and screen angles of each color separation layout. Therefore, 1-bittTIFF can be called "digital film". With some software, users can make some traditional film modifications to these "digital films", such as: a small amount of modification and drying.
Although 1-bittTIFF has a series of advantages, it also has its shortcomings. When encountering a large file (over 30GB!) in the open format (30.31"x40.55"), if you maintain the original film working mode, data transfer will be difficult. Fortunately, today's advanced file compression technology, such as CCITTGroup3/4 and some patented compression hardware, enables larger data to be compressed into smaller files without loss of data integrity. That is to say, after compression, the image quality is completely lost. For normal text and image pages, the compression ratio is approximately 1:15. Therefore, a 2400dpi folio has a compressed file size of 60MB per color. Such file sizes can be easily transferred via CDRom or peer-to-peer networks.
Based on the characteristics of digital files, 1-bittTIFF does not need to be stored in a larger space like a normal film. Because it is a digital format, it is very convenient to use a computer to find a file, and each time the plate is rebuilt, the same effect can be obtained, and the variables that may be brought out by the manual are eliminated. In this way, 1-bittTIFF provides a very good connection between the output center and the printing house, providing faster and more reliable operation with the same working mode as the film output. In other words, printers that lack experience in electronic prepress operations may also consider using only direct platesetters and working with output centers that have "digital film" 1-bittTIFF outputs. This not only reduces the investment of the printing house in the establishment of CTP, but also creates a situation in the market.
